This little portable kit from GoPower! is 120 watts with zero install and priced under $600.00!
I say "zero install" but we opted for the direct connect adaptor that came with the kit, now all we do is plug in when attaching the panel, it's nice not to worry about trying to clamp onto the batteries since the battery compartment in our RV is super tight. Installing this plug took less than a half hour, so we think it's a no brainer.
We find the main benefit for this panel is capturing the first light of the day. This way we can wake up and instantly be charging our batteries...and therefor we can start the morning coffee ritual first thing! Of course its also great for capturing the last drop of light before sunset, and for capturing additional sun during the winter when the sun sits lower on the horizon.
Things to know:
The first time I plugged in the kit the charge controller wasn't turned on, or set for my type of flodded battery. Read the instruction manual and you'll avoid this issue.
I wish the carrying case wasn't quite so fitted, sometimes I cannot zip up the case very easily.
A dream add on would be some sort of tiny attachment that would show when the panel is in full sun. My solar oven has this little plastic hole (almost like a sundial) that shows when max sun exposure is achieved.
Overall I'd recommend this portable kit to anyone who is looking to get started with solar, and for those who want to add flexibility to their current rooftop solar setup. We've been using ours for a few months now and wouldn't change a thing.
Of course once we started our solar wish list we ended up having the Go Power! (Solar Extreme) Solar and Inverter System installed as well...now we're set with way more solar than we can use...time to upgrade the battery bank!
While GoPower! gave us this portable panel for testing, our opinions and experiences are our own. It's a great panel and you can read more of our thoughts on the system on our website Gone With The Wynns.
received not long ago, popped open the package today (first sunny day) and in full sun the controller momentarily begins to charge then immediately shifts to indicate that it is night time. 100% unobstructed sunlight in Central Texas in the early afternoon. I will break out the fluke meter and see if its just a loose wire or something simple. connected to a low 12v marine battery using flooded mode. one star low rating because it's a plug and play system that plugs but doesnt play... will report back after testing the wiring. if that fails, will report back on customer service. Purchased this unit to save time over assembling a portable PV system on my own. sometimes you're better off just putting in the time and doing it yourself i guess? will update review after brief check and call to customer service if necessary
Solar power! Its unbelievable, we got our 120 watt Go Power portable system and I honestly pulled it out of the box, unzipped the very well made carrying case and unfolded the panels. I clamped on the positive and negative jaws to my batteries terminals and off we were pulling in clean energy charging my battery. My batt was at 2/3s charge which isn't very good, close to spiking amps and blowing fuses but even though it was overcast within two hours the battery was at 100%. We are sold! and for folks like us that bought a trailer or want to buy a trailer to camp with and don't want to be plugged into rv parks then spend the money and go solar! Within the next week or two we will be boondocking (dry camping) on BLM (Bureau of land management) with GO POWERS 480 watts kit on the roof top along with the 120 watt portable GO POWER folding unit producing a total of 600 watts of usable energy! Unreal, all from the sun, why are we all not using this natural resource? Anyhow thanks Go power after this relaxing weekend of camping you have proven yourself and we are forever faithful and a life changing solar power family.
