The OFFICIAL Go Plus:
Pairing/connecting the "OFFICIAL" GO Plus to your phone/Pokemon Go can be an exercise in frustration. Sometimes it's an hour-long ordeal, after which I've given up. I stopped carrying my official Go Plus because it's just too much like work, causes too much frustration, takes away too much playing time, and is just a pain I don't want to deal with when I should be enjoying playing.
This UN-official GO-tcha:
This is what the "Plus" should have been from the beginning. It pairs/connects to the phone and to Pokemon Go quickly and easily. It re-connects easily, virtually every time. It registers itself as a "Pokemon GO Plus" in the game, so the game cannot tell the difference between this unofficial accessory or the official one.
Being able to re-connect reliably is important because Niantic - in their infinite wisdom - makes Pokemon Go terminate Plus connections 1 hour after it has been connected. The termination happens whether you're using the Plus or not. Apparently, this is to save battery power. Seeing how the official Plus runs on a 2032 watch battery, battery life can be an issue..
The Good:
First of all, this GO-tcha is much smaller and much more discreet than the official Go Plus. It runs on an internal, rechargeable battery and has an OLED display that shows you its current status, including catching Pokemon or spinning stops.
This GO-tcha can differentiate between Pokemon you already have registered in your Pokedex and new Pokemon that you have not already registered. It can be configured to try to catch either variety manually (by tapping the button) or automatically (you don't have to interact with it). You can also use it to spin PokeStops either manually or automatically.
The automatic modes are awesome for building XP, stardust, and supplies (Poke balls, potions, etc.) quickly and effortlessly. Just walk or drive around with it in automatic mode for a little while and it will try to catch everything in sight. In fact, it catches things that don't even show up in Pokemon Go on the phone. Seriously. The phone didn't even make the sound or vibrate to notify of a Pokemon nearby, but the GO-tcha grabbed it - even when cruising down the road at 40MPH! Just this morning, it caught bunches of Pokemon that never appeared on-screen, including TWO Ditto, while I was driving to work! Besides, when you're a level 32 trainer looking at 750,000 XP to get to level 33, every catch helps.
Battery life seems good. I got a whole day of heavy use, with vibration enabled, without reaching the low battery warning.
The bad:
Cost. The official GO Plus is over-priced at $35 USD. This GO-tcha is even more expensive at closer to $50 USD. On the other hand, the GO-tcha is superior to the GO Plus in every way, especially in overall build quality, so maybe it's just a case of getting what you pay for. Nonetheless, these accessories are not inexpensive, considering that the game is free!
The band is rather small. If your wrists are large, it may not fit. The color scheme of that band is not terribly discreet, either. I've also read from other reviewers that the GO-tcha can fall out of the band for no apparent reason. If that happens while you're walking or biking outside, it is a small device and will probably be lost for good. I've read that the bands are identical to the Mi Tracker, so maybe those are an option.
The OLED display is not terribly bright and the brightness cannot be adjusted. It is hard to see in a well-lit room and virtually impossible to see outside on a sunny day. Good thing for the automatic modes.
The battery is rechargeable, but it takes its own, proprietary charging cable. I can't fathom why they didn't just make it micro-USB, like everything else in the world.
Strictly speaking, this device is as un-official as it can be. As such, its use is against Niantic's terms-of-service. It's conceivable that Niantic could devise a change to Pokemon GO that would "break" these un-official devices. I don't know how they could do it without breaking the legitmate devices as well, but it's in the realm of possible. Nonetheless, if you're concerned with strict adherence to the terms of service, then this device may not be for you.
The Neutral:
These "neutral" traits are neither good nor bad - it's the way Niantic designed things to work and there is nothing this accessory can do to change it.
Like the official GO Plus, Pokemon GO will disconnect the GO-tcha one hour after it has been connected. This is by Niantic's design and is out of the control of the accessory. Without a doubt, is is annoying as anything to be out spinning stops and catching Pokemon with the GO-tcha, then, suddenly, it's gone and you have to re-connect. Of course, this is an issue with the official GO Plus as well.
Like the official GO Plus, the GO-tcha only throws regular (red) Poke balls. If you run out of Poke balls, neither the Plus nor the GO-tcha can use Great or Ultra balls. You will have to hit up PokeStops and hope for regular Poke balls or buy Poke balls from the in-game shop.
You will use a LOT of Poke Balls if you have automatic catch mode turned on. Refer to the above note about running out of Poke balls. You have been warned! :-)
Besides needs LOTS of Poke Balls, you will also need enough room in your Poke Storage for the sudden influx of Pokemon. You may want to consider cleaning the wheat from the chaff in your Pokemon collection every day to maintain enough space. Poke Storage is limited to 1,000 spaces, max, so you'll need to stay on top of it.
Like the official accessory, it will only make one, single capture attempt per Pokemon, with a plain, straight throw of a regular (red) Poke ball. If the Pokemon breaks free, it automatically runs away. In other words, if you're somewhere known to spawn ultra-rare Pokemon that are hard to catch, you may want to turn off the automatic catch mode and just use your phone so you can use berries, throw curve balls, or use Great balls and Ultra Balls as you see fit. Now, that's not to say that you will never catch a wild Dragonite or Tyranitar with your GO-tcha, just don't hold your breath.
Like the official Plus, the GO-tcha's priority is catching Pokemon. If you're near a stop, but there are Pokemon nearby, it will try to capture the Pokemon before spinning the stop.
With the June 2017 Gym update, Gyms now have PokeStops in them, but neither the GO Plus nor the GO-tcha can spin those stops. Maybe Niantic will add that ability in a future update. Or, maybe, they won't.
Finally, like the official one, the GO-tcha does not necessarily "see" every Poke Stop, even in automatic mode. It seems the game just doesn't notify the accessory of nearby stops as readily as it does of nearby Pokemon. Getting the PokeStops is very hit and miss. I'm nearly certain that this, too, is an issue with Pokemon GO, not with the accessory, seeing how I've had the same experience with the official Plus. However, when it does "see" a Pokestop, it will spin it as soon as it's available. If you've spun the stop but stay in range, it will spin it again as soon as the 5 minute waiting time is up.
Summary:
I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy it again. The same cannot be said of the official Go Plus.
Update August 30, 2017:
The Go-tcha (and the official Go Plus as well) can now spin the photo disks inside gyms! The Go-tcha, of course, can do it without any interaction on your part, if you have automatic mode turned on.
Functionality:
Seems to function great. I have poor internet and poor wireless in my house. This can cause some issues, but it is not an issue with the device. So far I’ve had it set on vibrate, because I’ve heard this device can disconnect after certain periods of time. This doesn’t bother me, nor have I had it running long enough to test, but I don’t want to have it not running, so I keep it on vibrate.
I’ve used it to catch Pokémon, and to go to pokestops. Works amazing. I work 60 or more hours a week, and don’t have that many pokestops close by. This helps GREATLY. I have trouble getting stardust, and this is the main reason I purchased this one.
I would beware, from my reading, some sellers sell knock-offs, my is legit. I’ve been told you can tell because it will come with a different looking band than the one pictured. So far I haven’t had any issues with software, functionality, or usage.
I will note that the manual is lacking. It doesn’t give you an exact way to set this up.
I use this on my IPhone X. No problems.
How to connect:
First charge device after arrival, before usage.
While charging, download the Go-Tcha app.
Check for software updates. Install updates if necessary, from my reading, all models are shipped with the latest software, although, I can not confirm this.
You can set your settings in the app or on the device. You can do pokestops only, or Pokémon only. You can choose to have only known or unknown Pokémon caught. Some pretty cool features.
After setting your settings, and after charging, install your device in the band if you want. After doing this, make sure your Bluetooth is on, and connect to the “Pokémon Go Plus”. Then open your Pokémon go app. Next go to settings in the Pokémon go app, and go to “Pokémon go plus”. If your device is connected to the Go-Tcha, it will appear in the available device list.
Exit settings, go to the main screen. You will now see a pokeball. You can use this to connect to your device as well. After this you will pretty much have everything set up and it should start catching mons and spinning stops. If you are a spoofer on iOS, I can confirm this works with it. If you are a legit player, I can also confirm this works.
Overall this is an amazing device. Definitely helps gameplay, and for players that love the game, but can’t constantly be looking at their screen, this is amazing.
I will be buying a few more.
This device will work when the app is in the background.
I will try to update this review if, and when I run into any problems. I’m hoping this will work flawlessly though. I apologize if I missed a step in connecting your Go-tcha. This should be it, but I’m still new to using it, but this should at least get you on the right path. I will update that as well as I continue to play and get the set up down pat.
Enjoy you Pokémon Go players!
P.s. To the people who call this “cheating”, I could really care less. This does not effect you at all. It’s a game, and everyone should be able to enjoy it the way they see fit, especially if you are paying for parts of it.
**UPDATE:
Hello again! It’s been about 3-4 days since this device arrived, and since I’ve started using it.
As far as functionality goes, it is great! Here is what you need to know:
- It only throws one red pokeball per Pokémon. This is not the device itself that causes this, but because it is trying to replicate the Pokeball Go Plus and that is how that works. You can not blame the go-tcha for this.
- Device disconnects every 30-45 minutes. Longest I’ve been able to have it run is an hour. Not an issue for me, as I just keep an eye on it. There will be a Pokeball on the right hand top of the main screen. All you have to do is tap it once to reconnect. VERY easy to reconnect.
- I’ve only had one issue with reconnecting, and I forget what caused the issue, but I know it had something to do with me playing with the settings. As the manual states, when the device is charging, you can push it in 10 times rapidly, and this resets the device, if you ever have any connectivity issues, do this, and it will be fixed.
- Charing. As far as charging goes, I always make sure it’s charging by plugging it into the charger, and then hitting the red button on the device. After the Go-tcha screen loads, it should show the charging animation. If it doesn’t, your device isn’t charging. Please make sure you have a good connection. If you have a good connection, and it isn’t charging, try what I stated above. Plug the device in to the charger, and rapidly push it in 10 times (it really rapidly needs to come in and move back a hair to bring it back out like a spring, it should do this on its own though). After doing this 10 times, and keeping it plugged in, hitting the main red button, wait for the go-tcha screen to load, and then see if it shows the animation screen. It should, and this will be your fix.
- I still have no tried turning off Pokestops to only catch Pokémon, or turning off Pokémon catching to only spin Pokestops. I have, however, turned off the vibration on the device. This works perfectly.
- As stated before, Pokémon go will play in the back ground. You can turn your phone screen off, and it will send you notifications when you spin a stop, how many items received, if you catch a Pokémon, or if it flees. You can also turn these settings off if you go to: settings, Pokémon Go Plus, then notifications.
- As stated above, you can check the device manual, and it will show what each animation means on the device screen. This seems to work fine, with no issues that I have noticed.
All in all, it’s a life saving device. It has been wonderful to use, and has helped streamline catching stardust. I have not caught any shinys yet, or IV 100 Pokémon. It will catch shinys, but since they are harder to catch and only one red ball throw, your odds are less. I will gladly continue to use this device, and I decided yesterday to also order another for my IPad. You just can’t beat the ease of use, and the time cutting functions of this device.
I Definitely still recommend this device.

[Function] Catches Pokemon, activates pokemon stops, and also can be set to catch NEW pokemon automatically... with normal pokeballs.
[Personal Use] Personally, I only use this to activate the pokemon stops automatically so I don't have to frantically mash the pokemon go plus device while driving. It's distracted driving ==" and I really shouldn't be doing pokemon go things while driving > >.
[Additional information]
Charging cable is short, approx 3-4 inches or 10-12 cm.
To ensure a good fit, do rotate the device a bit and tap the circle to turn it on and check the charging status.
Poor visibility in sunlight, unavoidable.
Response time for activation of stops/pokemon is very fast. Subjectively appears faster than Pokemon Go Plus and has better chance activation when driving.
Battery is rated at 8-12 hours depending on intensity of use.
[Optional Suggestions]
Purchase an additional charger
Purchased replacement wristband (xiaomi mi band 1) though look into the design of the wristband as some are better than others, and worse than others. (Updated: Device is not compatible with the Xiaomi mi band 2 replacement bands).
Please download and read the manual!
Due to potential battery life issues, bring cable & battery pack along with charging cable. This is pokemon go, y'all should know the drill.
To improve battery life, disable vibration. (UPDATE: Apparently Disabling Vibration improves Battery life to up to 5 days)

DAY 1: THE FIRST 24 HOURS
Alright I've only had it for 24 hours, but here are my personal findings. I charged it up fully before first use AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS. Setting up and syncing is straight forward.
CONNECTION:
I have had a few disconnects but by and large it stays connected fairly well. If you want to set it in your pocket, leave your phone locked and not pay attention milage may very. However, if I do this and go for a walk it certainly stays connected for the entire walk. Reconnecting means tapping the icon on the main screen and the button on the Go-Tcha <- this is not a hard thing to do so arguable disconnects are really not that bad unless you want to 'set it and forget it' entirely even then Ninantic has programmed a 1 hour limit. I mean you want to play the game right? So check in every now and again.
WRIST BAND:
The wrist band is garbage. It does hold firmly however I can totally see taking it in and out several times the hard rubber will loosen over time for sure. There is no way to charge it in the wrist band which is another huge downside... So depending on how often you play you will likely wear out the wrist band fairly quick and I expect on subsequent review updates I will be noting that. On top of all this... it's ugly, let's be real. I wear it anyways because who cares.
SETTINGS:
I have not had much luck getting the settings to work on the unit itself and translate to the Pokemon Go app. The vibrate setting on the unit when toggled works. However, the auto catch Pokemon and Pokemon not seen do not seem to translate to the iOS app. Even with a full quit process and rebooting the app. The toggles in Pokemon go DO WORK. So if you just want to spin pokestops, or only catch mon, you can toggle in app and it works. This could be a user issue for me as I have only had it one day. I will try some other tricks and see if I have improvement.
DUST FARMING:
This has easily added 3000-4000 extra daily dust plus candies without much work on my part and only doing a few walks a day. I imagine this could be very powerful on community days and such coupled with active playing. Certainly brings my love for the game back.
My Setup:
iPhone 13 PRO
iOS 15.1.1
Gotcha LCD Unit
App Version 3.0
Firmware Version 1.7
I will update this review on DAY 7 and DAY 30 and DAY 90.

The Good:
Auto-catch and auto-spin is super handy when you can't look at your phone all the time. Pairs very well with Android devices - something that the Go Plus can't easily do. Performs just like the original device (single throw, regular pokeballs, prioritizes mons before stops, etc.). This device lets you catch pokemon while driving at speeds up to 70 km/h.
The Bad:
Screen readout is impossible to read in sunlight - you must shield it with your other hand or find shade. The button sucks, period. There is no feedback and it is far too sensitive. The face is easily scratched, so keep the protective film on it as long as possible, and if that falls off, use clear hockey tape.

EFFICIENCY: It works as what you watch on youtube. It catches and spin pokestops much faster than you do manually. It applies even when you're in the middle of battle, etc.
NECK & SHOULDER PAIN: I have shoulder and neck pain. It gets worse when I play pokemon outside. With go-tcha, I don't need to touch or keep looking at phone while I'm walking.
SAFETY: Therefore you can pay more attention to traffic and surroundings.
CONS
CONNECTION: Maximum connection period is about an hour in my case. However you will find your best solution to reconnect within a couple days of use.
POKEBALL: It only uses regular pokeball to catch pokemon. Wish I can allow it to use great/ultra ball as well but I don't see it.
PRIORITY OF POKEMON VS. POKESTOP: Catching pokemon is its priority than spinning pokestop. It still applies when there is no pokeball left. Therefore you will see it't not catching pokemon and not spinning pokestop either when your pokeball ran out.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
CATCHING RATE: Catching rate is not 100% but you can't complain it. It will still get you more chance of shiny pokemons and stardusts than you can get them in same time.
DEVICE: I am using an android on old LG G6 (2017). I saw people using this while driving on youtube. But that wasn't my case unless waiting signals or stuck in traffic.
