GoControl Garage Door Opener Remote Controller (Z-Wave)
The GoControl Garage Door Opener Remote Controller (Z-Wave) pairs with your existing automatic garage door opener to provide remote opening and closing control via your Z-Wave network and controller. When installed, you can open and close your garage door from anywhere. The garage door controller's audible and visual warnings will alert those nearby of the door's impending movement. The included tilt sensor attaches to the door to report its open or closed status to the Z-Wave controller. The Remote Controller also works as a repeater for your Z-Wave network, extending it up to an additional 130 feet (via line of sight).
What’s in the Box:
- GoControl Garage Door Opener Remote Controller (Z-Wave), adjustable mounting bracket, tilt sensor, mounting screws, tilt sensor screws, mounting bracket screws, mounting tape, power supply retaining bracket, power supply, and installation manual.
Remote Control of Your Sectional Garage Door
As a part of your Z-Wave network, the GoControl Garage Door Opener Remote Controller (Z-Wave) provides remote opening and closing of a sectional garage door by pairing with almost any automatic garage door opener. Once installed and paired with the door's existing opener, the Remote Controller provides both audible and visual warnings before opening or closing the door, meeting UL 325-2010 safety requirements.
Tilt Sensor Reports Door Position to Z-Wave Controller
The Remote Controller system's wireless tilt sensor attaches to the inside of the garage door. Once installed, it reports the door's open or closed status to the Z-Wave controller, which is then displayed on most Z-Wave controller apps.
The Garage Door Opener Remote Controller is never to be installed or used in conjunction with garage door openers manufactured prior to 1993 (models without an operational safety beam entrapment detection system).
Works as a Repeater for Your Z-Wave Network
For the Remote Controller device to work with your network, it must be within approximately 130 feet (via line of sight) from your Z-Wave Controller or the closest Z-Wave Repeater. However, this device also works as a repeater, extending your network up to an additional 130 feet via line of sight to reach other elements of your Z-Wave network that would otherwise be out of range of the hub or controller.
Compatible with All Other Z-Wave-Certified Products
Like all Z-Wave-certified products, the GoControl Garage Door Opener Remote Controller (Z-Wave) is compatible with other Z-Wave devices, including those made by other manufacturers. The GoControl family of Z-Wave products also includes switches, dimmers, outlets, thermostats, light bulbs and lighting retrofit kits and plug-in modules as well as security devices, including alert sounders, passive infrared motion detectors, and door/window sensors.
About Z-Wave Technology
Z-Wave smart chips enable two-way RF communication among hundreds of Z-Wave-enabled devices using the Z-Wave international wireless standard. Thanks to the cross-manufacturer compatibility of Z-Wave products, it is simple to set up systems that include security, energy management, home entertainment, and appliances. Z-Wave products operate at the standard 908.42 MHz frequency and support network-wide inclusion. They are security system compatible.

Fast forward to December 1, 2016. The unit has stopped moving the door. The GoControl was not used super often, but was on occasion. I can open and close the door with the button on the wall and the status is still reported to the Smarthings hub just fine. However, when trying to open or close the door it beeps and flashes like normal and then nothing; no door movement.
I have tried:
-Unplugging the GoControl and the garage door opener for an hour and trying again - no luck
-Removing the switch on the wall so only the GoControl is connected to the garage door opener - no luck
-I've tried removing the GoControl from the z-wave network and re-adding it, following all set up instructions - no luck
-I've stuck a multimeter on the wires and tried to open the door and there was no connectivity change read on the meter
It appears that the unit is completely unable to move the door. I've tried contacting support [...], but I have not been able to get any help. Calls get forwarded to voicemail, online chat is always unavailable, email to them has gone unanswered for more than 7 days now. I've been trying to get in contact with them for over a week.
My GoControl is only 8 months old and was no used a whole lot. It's well within the 1 year warranty that comes with the unit, but I have been unable to get any contact with the manufacturer. I definitely will not be purchasing a replacement GoControl.
Now what do I do? The "1 Year" warranty seems to only apply to units purchased through an installer, technical support is $50 from the seller, and apparently you can't just buy a new tilt sensor.
Nice unit ... but without seller support, what good is it?
I contacted customer service, they had me mail the failed unit to them and sent me a new one, and this new one has worked reliably for years (I didn't want to immediately edit my review in case the replacement failed like the last one) with both SmartThings *and* Home Assistant! The only reason that I'm not giving this 5 stars is because every once in a while, the replacement unit "forgets" to send the pulse to open/close the garage after beeping (same behavior as the one that failed). If I wait a few minutes and try again, it usually works. I also wish that I could read the battery value from the tilt sensor, since the only way to know that the battery is out is when it stops responding.
I now have some really great automations working in Home Assistant with this garage opener!
As https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3VCQG0MNN7TXA and others have said, in the beginning, it will work. After a while (upwards towards a year), it will suddenly stop working. It will sense when the door is open or closed, as well as beep and light up when told to open or close, but to actively close the circuit to the garage's terminals by emulating a push-button? It stops working.
Please save your money, and do not buy this.
I found an discussion thread on SmartThings community that points to a potentially defective LED, the same one that blinks when the unit is opening/closing the garage door. The telltale sign is that the flashing light is dead, or dimmer than normal. The thread is at https://community.smartthings.com/t/linear-garage-door-opener-stopped-working/70083/65 if Amazon lets me post links. If not, look in community dot smartthings dot com, and search for thread named Linear Garage Door Opener Stopped Working. It's started by user Jeremy8404 in Dec 2016, and user timnord found the potential cause May 1, 2018, a bad LED which can be replaced with a 3.5 Ohm resistor, and another user tscan confirmed the same fix worked on May 7.
