I'm one of those folks who don't want to pay the "Apple Tax," so I was happy to find an MP3 player from a manufacturer other than Apple, featuring Bluetooth and an elegant design -- this Philips GoGear Ariaz.

I also wanted to offer a counterpoint to the middling reviews some other Amazon customers have posted on this fine player.

First, let me say I bought this primarily as an audio player. IMO the screen is too small to be truly useful as a video player, picture viewer, or ebook reader.

So I will focus mainly on the audio features. IMO this is an excellent MP3 player. I had no trouble pairing it via Bluetooth to Bose SIII and Mini wireless speakers or a pair of Motorola Buds (EXCELLENT BT earbuds!!!), and the sound quality is fabulous. I truly can't hear a difference between the wireless and wired sound (using a miniplug cable).

Though I was unable to download the Songbird music management software Philips supposedly offers at their website (I couldn't find a link), I had no trouble transferring albums from my PC using Windows Media Player.

The FM tuner is also excellent, although it seems to work only with wired headphones, which act as the antenna. The tuner stores up to 20 preset stations, and I used the autotune function to load presets for me, an action that took less than a minute. The tuner displays the call letters and frequency of the station tuned in.

I also tried the recording function; the Ariaz has a mono microphone in its bottom edge. The sound quality for dictation is first-class; I haven't had the chance to use the unit to record a meeting or lecture.

Otherwise I loaded some photos from my PC to try the slideshow feature.

I have had a couple MP3 Phillips players and overall have been happy with the product. This particular model was not as user friendly to set up and download music, in fact it crashed when I was loading the music. I reset and did manage to load my music, then it stopped working totally while I was using in my car. I pressed the reset button and it seems to be working fine again. I hope this model works as well as the other Phillips players I've had.

I bought this mainly to listen to audiobooks after owning two Creative Zens in a row. What I like about the Philips is the sound quality, Bluetooth capability and battery life. But in most other ways, the Creative Zen is much better. Library audiiobook downloads through Overdrive only work with mp3 and are hard to find in the Philips and not able to be bookmarked. The sleep function is buried and has to be re-set manually, whereas in the Zen, the sleep function is automatic until disabled. The Philips doesn't seem to pick up the chapter settings in Audible books, but the Zen does, making it easier to navigate. The scrolling function is both less precise and slower in the Philips than the Zen.

I have an older model of the Phillips Go Gear so when I cracked the front glass I bought another Phillips but the only trouble is that I can't seem to get it to play the old format I used in my Media player so all has to be downloaded as MP3 only.

I was looking forward to this MP3 player.
When it arrived in downloaded the software [the link on the instructions didn't work so I had to search a little bit.
When I installed the software I got an error message that it didn't install correctly [I have Windows 8.1].
I finally got the software to run, but it crashed every time I ran it.
I finally managed to load some MP3 files on the player and listened to them.
I synched up with the Bluetooth featured to my Oontz Angle speaker and listened to some music.
I was disappointed in the poor sound quality. Music from my iPhone sounded much better.
I ended up returning the unit the next day.

We have been disappointed with this mp3 player. It is does not do Bluetooth well and when we tried to download audio books, it does not support DRM player format. It has not done anything we had hoped but play music froma head set well.
