If you've already tried GoPicnic meals before, you know basically what to expect here: a main dish, a couple of side items, and a dessert.
While all GoPicnic meals are gluten-free, this meal is designed to avoid SEVEN types of allergens: wheat, dairy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. It's also completely vegan. Just about anyone should be able to eat each of the included components of the meal.
The main dish is SunButter Creamy Sunflower Seed Spread with Crunchmaster Multi-Grain Crackers.
The sunbutter is pretty interesting- you have to sort of knead it before opening the package to make sure it's nice and mixed and pliable. It tastes a lot like peanut butter and is similarly sticky. The texture is more on the smooth side than the crunchy side. The crackers are pretty good- they're crisp and have a mild, subtle flavor.
The side dishes are a seed-and-fruit trail mix and a fruit snack.
The trail mix is really good- it's Mountain Mambo Nut Free Trail Mix, Gluten, Dairy & Nut Free, the main ingredients of which are pre-shelled sunflower seeds and bits of dried fruit (raisin and apple). My only complaint is that there's only 0.75oz of it, so it goes really quickly.Read more ›
First, get a large insulated tote for groceries (Whole Foods sells a great $9.99 messanger bag). You can pack your own snacks in small ziplock snack bags or get GoPicnic ready-to-go meals with everything included (one box is good for 2 kids) - they include five items or so, tuna or salami, crackers, some sort of healthy spread (hummus, black bean, cheese), trail mixes and/ or dried fruit and chocolate, etc. They are all excellent, but my twins love the GPNDV321 Ready-To-Eat-Meals, Salami + Cheese, 3.5 oz, 6 per Carton. One of those great "why didn't I think of that" ideas - I pack these exact snacks every day in little bags before school and trips but sometimes find I'm out of one item or another.
You can stock the cooler with Apple & Eve Juice, White Grape Grover, 8-Count Aseptic Boxes (Pack of 5), water, or with ...Read more ›
Organic, buttery-rich crackers: 6 crackers
Gourmet Asiago cheese spread: .75 oz.
Salami Slices: .8oz. enough for a couple of slices per cracker (or else you will have a lot of salami and no more crackers)
Cashew medley, containing yogurt chips, cranberries, cashews and raisins: .75 oz.
Organic Dark Chocolate sandwich cookie with antioxidants: 1 cookie
It all tasted so good! I was shocked at how great all the flavors went together. The cheese spread easily on the crispy, butter crackers. The salami didn't taste salty, but was well-textured and very natural. The cashew medley is awesome and I wish there was a bigger bag of this item. The organic sandwich cookie was fine, but not outstanding. Overall, this is a great tide-me-over until dinner or my next meal. For a child, this would be fulfilling for a lunch box. I only wish there was a little juice box to wash it all down.
