The GoPro battery pack doubles your battery life.
It just snaps on top of the standard battery (On top of the cover) and the interface slot handles the connections.
You get 2 housing backs that accommodate the thicker profile.
The 3 battery power LED's are very handy. Just push the button to read.
The 2 new GoPro devices, the LED Screen and Battery pack cannot be used together, and I wouldn't want to.

When I bought the Battery BacPac I expected that if I was adding a second battery, I would be doubling the battery life of the device. Unfortunately that didn't turn out to be the case. I use a GoPro HD HERO2 camera, and when I'm shooting 1080p video at 30fps I generally get about 2.5 hours of video before my battery dies. Adding the battery BacPac only added about an additional 1 hour to that! The issue is not the battery its self, if I take the second battery out of the BacPac and put it directly in the camera, I get a similar amount of time to my original battery, so it appears that the BacPac its self is actually using some (a lot) of the power from the second battery?

I contacted GoPro support about this, and they told me thatt generally they expect the Battery BacPac to add 1 to 1.5 hours of life. So, if you're looking to extend battery life, and your application allows you to "switch" batteries, then just buying additional batteries may be a better way to go.

Stand alone charging that I can also connect to the camera allowing for longer shots... Just what I wanted.

Size is same as the LCD bacpac but the battery bacpac weighs almost as much as the whole camera. Not sure if I would want it attached to my head mount.

What would I change or ask differently? How about a little carrying case that I can safely carry this in when not in use. I worry about damage to the port when not in use. Same issue I have with the LCD bacpac. Most of us use the cameras for what they were designed for, action shots, meaning that having a small safe carrying case is essential.

I really enjoy the additional video opportunities afforded by the GoPro Battery Bacpac as it allows me to have that charged second battery ready when needed. I especially like the fact that I can plug the Bacpac into my laptop while travelling and get charged up that way. Very innovative and an exceptional add-on to my GoPro Hero collection. An excellent system overall - unbeatable POV camera.

This backpack is thicker than all the other backpacks for the camera and comes with its own door.

It really does double the battery life of the camera, BUT there are a couple things that could be improved.

First the battery is very tight in the backpack making it hard to remove from the backpack in cold weather or in gloves. Swapping batteries between the backpack (you can use it as a charger) is not a quick process.

Second it has a separate charging port - which is good if used alone as a charger, but it does not seem to get charged when the main camera is being charged. This means you need to use 2 USB cables to charge both batteries at the same time, or charge them one at a time.

I have 4 GoPros and keeping up with cards and batteries during a hectic shoot can be tough. This thing is a must have. The camera lasts so long now it's great. Also perfect for timelapse shooting when you don't have nearby house power. I also use the battery bacpacs to charge batteries instead of the camera. My only complaint is that you can't plug the LCD bacpac to the battery module so I could have the best of both worlds.

So I mainly got this to have an extra battery with the ability to charge it separate from my GoPro. I've only used it once attached to my GoPro since I typically have my LCD screen attached and you can only have one or the other attached at a time. It is nice when you are going to be shooting for more then 2.5 hours, which is the average life span of a single batterie 720p 30fps mode, and don't want to have to deal with changing the battery out while on site. You get about 5 hours of life with the add on and you dont have to deal with reseting the clock every time you take out the battery. Thats one crapy thing is if you remove the main battery in the GoPro is it resets your date and time to a generic one which makes it so hard to figure out what video was shot when. This product was definitely a good addition and see myself using it a lot when snowboard season starts here pretty soon since I'm typically out all day and don't want to deal with changing the battery out all the time. I'm still going to probably need more batteries for the longer days but will be nice to only change them every 5 hours instead of 2.5. Would definitely recommend this product for anyone who needs more battery life and doesn't always need the screen attached. If you always use the LCD your better off just getting more batteries since they are quit a bit cheaper by their selves, but it is nice being able to charge more then one battery at a time too.

I've used this backpac as it was intended, for extending the battery life of the camera, but I find it gets more use as a battery charger. While my GoPro is in use, I have this plugged in to a changer, so when the battery dies, I can just swap out the two. This allows me to either keep the GoPro small and light, or have the LCD packpac attached. While sea kayaking, or other long excursions without power, I have used this to keep the footage coming.

My only wish would be to additionally have the option secure the LCD backpac behind this backpac. This could be especially useful, since the LCD makes the battery life so short, the fun is often over before it began. So doubling the life would be quite nice. It would also make the GoPro (and case) the fattest little camera on the market. Still, I think I would make use of it.
