So, let me just start off by saying I don't typically write reviews unless the product is awesome, and this product is awesome! I have wasted so much money on eating out, because I'm a very picky eater. I like my fried foods and since I'm terrible at cooking, frozen pizzas get really old really fast. I would buy other frozen foods like chicken tenders, pizza rolls, French fries, onion rings..but they would all go to waste because none of them had the same crisp as what I would eat in the drive thru or restaurant when baking them in the oven.
I broke down and bought a fryer. I figured this would be the best option to save me money, however, the fryer was a pain in the ass! It used so much oil, was a huge mess, took up so much counter space, was awful to clean, and stunk up my apartment. I used it one time and was never going to use it again; I gave up and went back to wasting money on drive thru.
Last week a friend posted this air fryer on Facebook. I thought "no way..something that fries food with air? Get real!" But I had nothing to lose, so I did some research. The YouTube video that sold me was a video where the guy made a 1 lb salmon in this fryer. I don't even eat fish and this fish looked good enough for me to eat! I immediately bought it.
It came a day early, which is awesome, and I used it for the first time today. I fried chicken tenders, you know the ones that have just been sitting in my freezer, and was really nervous. If these didn't turn out well, I just wasted more money, but to my surprise these chicken tenders turned out AMAZING! Just as good as any restaurant. Perfect crisp on the outside and juicy/tender on the inside.
This was all great, but now I had to face cleaning it. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised because it's made out of nonstick material and cleaning was a breeze!! To top it off, it barely takes up any space on my counter. I live in an apartment, so my space is limited, but this fits great!! The chicken also wasn't greasy or anything! I'm telling you this is great and I can't wait to fry more food with air!
UPDATE 4 August 2018 - still working just fine, although some of the inner finish has flaked off the outside solid pan that pulls out (this is a two-piece assembly, with an inner perforated pan and an outer solid pan). This is probably due to the fact that we usually just put the two parts into the dishwasher and the harsh climate has peeled it. BUT, that surface never contacts food, so it's not a problem at all.
The little sliding clear-plastic piece that prevents accidentally separating the two pans broke long ago (it's not very sturdy) but that's not a big deal either; we're just a bit more careful when handling the pans. Otherwise this air fryer is working just great and we love it.
Want to make a truly GREAT baked potato? Get 2-3 nice big brown Russet potatoes, wash well, poke the surface with a fork all around about a dozen times (just enough to pierce the skin, you don't have to jam the fork in there) to release steam, then lightly olive-oil the entire surface and sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper and garlic powder all over - the oil will allow the spices to stick.
Then roast in this air fryer for 60 minutes total at 400F, you can only set a max time of 30 minutes, but that's fine because you should turn them halfway anyway. These will probably be the best bakers you've ever tasted; it works great. And eat the skin - it's delicious and very nutritious.
The best way to open a baked potato? Go here and watch this very short vid - you'll never do it another way again once you see this simple technique: youtu(dot)be/lqLR4n50o6s (replace the (dot) including the parenthesis with, well, a dot. The period. And yes, it goes between the u and the b)
---------------------
So far, so good. After 3 or 4 use cycles, it's working just fine and I'll be back to update this review if anything changes.
Have made fried chicken (using the KFC seasoning recipe from the Chicago Trib a few months ago, obtained from a Col Sanders' family scrapbook) with just a light spray of canola oil and it turned out juicy, crispy and very tasty with 18 minutes at 400F. Pressure-frying is necessary to get the authentic KFC texture, but this was pretty close.
But the home-run was french fries. If you like McDonalds' fries, just cook 7-8 ounces of Ore-Ida 'Extra Crispy Fast-Food Fries' in this baby for 12-13 minutes at 400F (shaking them mid-way) and you get 100% McDonalds fries! No kidding; those fries cooked this way are absolutely identical in looks, texture and taste to my all-time favorite French Fry. We were astounded at the result. Zero spray oil added; just cook those Ore-Idas as-is, frozen out of the bag (these fries already have some oil added; you don't need to add any).
We've tried conventional oil-frying both of these recipes in a cast-iron pan with peanut oil; this way is far better and much easier to clean up.
An impressive little convection oven; We're Lovin' It so far. Hope it's more reliable than some others have reported......

Si cocina bien los alimentos, pero en ocaciones es dificil que lo haga de manera uniforme. No he intentado hacer pan o pasta, pero si carne, papas y huevo.
