Awesome Product!!!
I'll soon be packrafting in Alaska and wanted something to charge my iPhone 5 and my Fuji XP70 digital camera. In the attached photo I have the panels hooked up to a battery charger for my camera battery. The charger is connected using the car charging port that comes with the Nomad 7. It's charging the battery in direct sunlight. I'm not sure how long it will take as the battery was dead. I tried charging my iPhone 5 and it would not work. I purchased the Guide 10 Plus to charge with the panel so I could charge my phone and other devices. When I purchased the panels the first time they arrived scratched and the box was damaged. Perhaps it was returned and sold as new again. Amazon sent me another one. Then I had an issue with the batteries not holding a charge in the Guide 10 Plus. Contacted Goal Zero because the batteries had been manufactured in 3/2013 as printed on the battery. However, I did not purchase them until 3/2015. If the batteries are not used within the first year they could become weaker or not hold a charge. Even though I bought the Guide 10 elsewhere Goal Zero replaced the batteries for me. I provided proof of purchase, photo's of the batteries and number of times they were used prior to submitting the claim.I've talked directly with Goal Zero on a number of occasions in researching what would be best to use on this trip. They're customer service and knowledge is great. I also became a certified expert to sell their products at the outdoor store I work at part time. I really believe in the quality of the product. Plus they're working hard to reach communities who are in need of lighting, including third world countries. I highly recommend checking out their website!

This panel works great, i've charged two different battery backups (12,000 mah and 5,000 mah), a Galaxy Note 2, and Beats Studio wireless headphones. Overall the devices charge quickly (not as quick as the wall obviously) but the charge was sufficient for the additional power boost needed while backpacking.

Typically i'd charge my two battery backups and that would get me through 2 - 2.5 days of charging on my cell phone. The Note 2 having a 3100mah battery really ate through the backups. I typically use my phone for GPS tracking (My Tracks) and picture taking while hiking. If I use it for a movie and/or music for the kids at camp, then it leans towards 2 days of use. For any additional usage, like emergency calls etc, I have a wind up flashlight w/ a DC out, that I use in conjunction w/ a DC to USB converter. For trips with my buddies I have a larger lantern that also has a wind up generator that also charges. The wind up generators charge about 1-2% of my cell phone per minute of winding...which gets very annoying after about 5 minutes!

The Nomad 7 panel allows me to extend my backpacking past those 2 days and means I do not have to worry about using the phone for other things like reading at night after the kids go to bed. The panel means I can charge while I hike and not have to worry about winding my lantern for hours at a time while hiking!

The Nomad 7 does not completely fill my 12,000 mah backup with an entire day worth of charging, but does provide sufficient charge to refill my phone from about 10-15% to 100% over night.

Size wise, as previously noted, opened is about the size of a regular 8.5x11 sheet of paper. There are ample hooks to tie in another Nomad 7 panel. This version does have the ability to tie into another panel. The connections are, Nomad panel input, Nomad panel output (it's a small connection, less than a 3.5mm connector), a proprietary connection that you can use to connect to other Goal Zero products (like battery backup) or a DC (read car outlet/cigarette lighter) connection (the DC connection is included), and finally a female USB connection.

The included storage bag on the back of the panel is handy, it allows me to stow my USB cables (mini to charge my backups, micro to charge my phone direct from the panel or the backup), and both of my backups. But little more storage area than that.

Overall the panel has worked flawlessly in full sun and partial sun. I have no regrets with this panel. I would have like to try a couple other panels, but this was the one I settled on and i'm completely satisfied with this panel for backpacking due to the low profile, low weight, and great charging.

It's Great, but don't expect miracles... I have used this to charge my Android phone, a portable battery and an iPod. It works Great, HOWEVER it needs Bright, Direct sunlight. In fact, in about 8 hours of direct sun, it charged my portable battery with 2 days worth of Cel Phone power. If it's cloudy, it works, but don't expect much of a charge.

They did a good job on durability, design and usability. The loops are fine, but I wonder if they'll break. They are like a shoestring. I'd like to more rugged tie downs.

My plan was to use this for Bike Touring. For my use, it is a little heavy and bulky, but I'll take it anyway, since I expect to be without power for many days. Its pretty easy to attach to the rear bag.

I purchased one of these at my Local Costco store a while back and use it when I go hiking, camping and when we go to the lake. I purchased a second one from Amazon as we now have to many devices that we take with us and need to be charged. It can directly charge a smartphone or tablet you an daisy chain these for more power as well. Or it can charge up a battery pack that I got with the one that I purchased at Costco.

Very rugged and they even got wet and still worked. I was worried that they were not going to work after it rained on them but I have had no problems.

Works great. I use it while I'm working in rural Nepal to charge my smartphone. Have had no problems whatsoever with it and it makes life much easier for me, especially using it with the Guide 10 Plus battery pack. I do wish that it came with some clever built in method for tilting the panels to lean it a bit, to be as perpendicular to the sunlight as possible. I mostly just lean mine against something to an in-between position and adjust it whenever I'm back in camp.

I will say that several Nepalis have not been able to charge their phones directly from the panel (even dumb phones), but I'm pretty sure that's due to the poor quality of their knock-off phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Reisebegleiter

The best blend of portability, compatibility, quality, ruggedness and value from Goal Zero.12V charging as well as USB. I'm glad I bought this rather than the Nomad 7 plus.

I have this to support a Goal Zero Flip 30 USB recharger and a Goal Zero Yeti 150. This is the perfect partner for the Flip and a useful extra for the Yeti 150 (which is better paired with bigger, less portable panels) - the laws of physics say a bigger panel will charge things more quickly but then they will cost more and be less portable. This is the size of a good hardback book, isn't crazy money and is the best overall compromise.

Feels a quality item, takes up no space at all and seems bulletproof. Charged my Flip 30 from 50% in four hours on an overcast day. No complaints :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, well designed and my personal favourite camping gadget

Good product for maintaining your phones battery on longer excursions. works ok in low light conditions but not as bad as some reviewers have stated. charging directly from the pannel via the integrated USB takes a little longer if you don't have a goal zero battery bank to go with it. Solar raid feature is a neat idea and shows some thought along with the eyelets for hanging it up and the zipped pocket for your phone and wires makes it my favourite camping gadget.
The only real complaint I have is the extremely short solar output lead. If using a nomad power bank ignore this comment. If intending to use with a goal zero yeti 150 or above with Mains output you will need a solar extension to make full use of it.
