This book may not be for the Christian who’s been around the block forty years… Unless your faith is slipping a little. This may not be for one who isn’t a Christian, unless you’re looking for something bigger that what you already have going on in your life. Or if you’re wondering what God is able to do.
Her chapter on Truth was so profound, I read it twice. The passage I am pondering still is, “No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Ps 84:11. I sometimes forget that the creator of the universe is FOR his people. He is already working on whatever is bothering me. He is growing me too. I sometimes forget that God Himself will meet me where I am: I don’t have to be perfect.
You will finish God Is Able feeling empowered, encouraged and enlightened. If you have begun to doubt The Great I Am, if you feel like your prayers are like helium balloons collecting at the ceiling or if you are losing hope, I encourage you to get God Is Able. This is one of the most refreshing reads I’ve enjoyed in a while.
Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
Paul wrote Ephesians 3:20-21 when he was imprisoned, it seems more likely that he would write a litany to his suffering as David did in many Psalms. Instead, Paul found hope in God apart from his circumstances.
I reviewed a book by author Priscilla Shirer several years ago, published by Moody Press--publisher of learned treatises on Christian truth. I found that book, though valuable and useful, a little dry.
But Moody editors must have removed her personality. God Is Able gives a glimpse of an attractive woman who lives her faith. She writes as she probably speaks. The reader will find no dryness here.
She understands discouragement and trouble, but has come through it more in love with Christ than in all her life as a preacher`s daughter. God is Able is not self-help. If you follow these five steps it will all be fixed. There isn't a single step to follow (unless you count turning your life completely over to God).
I came away from God Is Able encouraged, and determined to pray bigger to a bigger God than any of us can imagine.
One point of disagreement; it has become fashionable to stick the title in the middle of the page with no other decoration and call it a cover. I miss the days of beautiful covers. There is no reason to choose this book in a bookstore.
Priscilla Shirer is the daughter of Dr. Tony Evans and a busy writer and speaker in her own right.
I received this book from the author's representative. I have not met the author and I receive no pay for any review. This is my opinion.
In God Is Able, Priscilla camps on two of the most powerful verses of scripture in the New Testament, Ephesians 3:20-21. “Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
Those are two life change verses if we can really grab a hold of what those verses are saying and apply them to our lives. Priscilla digs in and shares what she learned by studying each word in those verses and applying them to her life.
Why a whole chapter devoted to “Now”? When you think about it, do you really get that the Lord God Almighty loves you, is there and available to be at work in your life in that impossible situation you are dealing with right now? He is well able to work exceedingly abundantly in those circumstances that are beyond you. Our circumstances are never beyond God.
One of the things I appreciate about Priscilla’s writing is that she has a high and holy view of God. She does not downplay the sovereignty of God. Sometimes God’s work that is beyond what we can imagine is when God in His sovereignty says “No”. He is doing a work in us and through us that may impact others. He desires to grow us and transform us into the image of Christ.
I enjoy Priscilla’s style of writing. I feel like I’m sitting across the table from a friend, who is being open, honest, real and transparent.
I recommend God Is Able by Priscilla Shirer.Read more ›
