The only problem was the book has a surprise ending of *twins*. I'd love to give this book as a gift to other families who are expecting their second child, but I don't want to confuse their kid about whether there's two babies or one. Thankfully my own daughter didn't understand that part to be confused, especially since everyone was joking about me having twins anyway, because the baby was so large!
The parents encouraged the older child that she will love the baby, explained that the baby will cry, and assured her that she will always be loved! It even showed the older child having fun with her grandparents while Mom and Dad went to the hospital to have the baby. As I said, it was a great book until the surprise ending...
CONS: My biggest gripe is that the mom who is experiencing her second pregnancy ends up giving birth to twins- a boy and a girl. While this is a surprise to the family, this is obviously not applicable to the vast majority of human births to singletons. My gripe is that this has the potential to be very confusing for a little one. My daughter (currently 16 months, but who will be 22 months by the time my second is born) doesn't need to get it into her head that there is a possibility that there may be two babies inside of me. Also, the book is titled "God Gave Us Two" when this is relaly about God giving them THREE children, so this is very misleading to potential readers/buyers of the book. Also, pass this up if you're not Christian. While the deity mentioned in the book is "God" (not Christ or Jesus) there is text that is lifted out of the Bible passages, so not applicable to Muslims or other religions who believe in God but are not Christian.

Secondly, my daughter is very literal (as most two-year-olds are), and I want her to understand that she's going to have a brother OR a sister, and we can't choose which. Imagine my surprise when this book finishes with Mama Bear bringing home twins - one of each! Fine if you're expecting twins, but I don't want to confuse my daughter with the idea that there might be more than one baby on its way.
In summary - cute enough story, but completely useless for the purpose for which it was bought.
