It is rare that I review a book that I believe should be in every library, this is one of those very few books that meet the criteria for such a recommendation. This book should be in every Christian church library and on the shelves of any Christian with young children.
"God Is With You: That Is All You Need" is a wonderful book detailing various scenarios where children might be afraid and supplying just the right amount of scripturally based advice. The book deals effectively with situations like when you feel lonely, when you are afraid, when things go wrong and you want to give up, when you have a hurt that won't go away, when people lie about you, when you feel understood, when you are concerned about the future, when you are asked to do something very difficult for you, and when your best friend moves away. These are some of the most common and difficult problems of children and the teachings of this book can help them move through those difficult times. The book ends with a very basic version of the plan of salvation and invites the child to ask Jesus into their life.
In addition to a wonderful story, "God Is With You" is beautifully illustrated by Corbert Gauthier. The detailed and brilliant use of color creates a visual feast that is sure to hold a child's attention even with the rather long readings on some of the pages. I will be sure to look for the name Corbert Gauthier as illustrator on other children's books when considering items for review.
In summary, this is one of the most highly recommended children's books that I have ever reviewed.

Like a father gently guiding his children, Larry Libby offers advice, Bible stories, and personal remembrances in his lovely book God is With You: That is All You Need.

Each two page spread in this beautifully illustrated book reminds readers God is with us - no matter what! You may be "facing a scary time," God may feel far away, everything may seem awry, you might be hurting, others may tell lies about you, nobody may seem to understand, someone you love might die, you might need to do difficult things, your best friend might move away...but God is with you and will help you.

For example, in the first two page spread, titled "When You're Facing a Scary Time," Libby reminds readers about the biblical Isaac, who moved to a new place "where the neighbors were unfriendly." But God remained with him. Then he tells a story about how he and his boyhood friend once accidentally got locked inside a school building that seemed empty. They panicked and broke a window trying to escape. Just then, a janitor walked into the hallway. "If we had waited just a few more seconds, we would not have broken the window. We forgot that God is always with us. The God who was Isaac's Friend in scary times is your Friend too. God would like us to remember him when we feel afraid."

The last several pages of this book remind us that God is knocking at the door of our hearts. If we haven't already let him in, Libby says he hopes will will do it right away. The last page of the book offers a simple prayer for doing so.

Throughout, Corbert Gauthier's illustrations delight.

We purchased this book to give as a gift to several Foster Children at a camp where we were on staff. This book contains several situations where these children may need God's help. It was the most perfect book we could have ever found.

I'm not interested in shocking you or hurting your feelings or wrecking your party. I am deeply concerned for your children, for all the children who start life with a love for the Biblical God and are later betrayed by his dark side. Can you imagine falling in love with your Mother's God? Can you imagine finding out in your teen years that he burns people alive for homosexual feelings they know they did not choose and have no control of? This isn't a theory! No armchair theologizing. It happened to me, and even as an old man, I'm not sure I've fully recovered.

I looked inside this book. It seems like a lovely introduction to the God I actually KNOW. So, I know the author does, too. But the axe must be laid to the trees, and every tree that does not bear good fruit must be hewn down. That tree is now the Bible itself. Life is too short to settle for approximations. Does his mercy endure forever, or does it not? The Bible says NOT, and that is a conclusion I will not accept. We must labor to be free of the bitter lessons of the past and insist on a God that will no longer shock the heart of a child.
