Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Gisonni, founder of a company dedicated to "personal well-being, spiritual growth and business success," chose to cope with losing four family members within a four-year period by adopting a sunny optimism. Her book of 44 easily digestible essays encourages other women to do the same—whether they're dealing with the ho-hum round of everyday life or with unexpected stress. More than anything, she reminds readers of things they should already know, but have lost in the shuffle of life: live with integrity; indulge yourself once in a while; give up control, guilt and noise; rediscover joy. Gisonni follows each essay with an affirmation and gives readers room to create a few of their own. The handful of references to specific classic goddesses—Pele, Demeter, Isis, Quan Yin, Lakshmi—is far outweighed by allusions to pop icons such as Julia Child, Hillary Clinton, Goldie Hawn, Cyndi Lauper, Maria Shriver, Mother Teresa and Vanessa Williams. The subtle notion that women are all goddesses in their own right plays out a bit too subtly, as merely substituting the word "goddess" for "woman," "her," "she," or "you" fails to drive home the point in any original or lasting way. However, the short-attention-span format makes this a perfect gift for girlfriends on the go. (Apr.)

From the Author

If I asked you what you wanted most out of life, chances are you’d say "happiness", although like many women (including me), after juggling work, family and home, and making sure that everyone else in your life is happy, there’s little time left to think of yourself.

But what if I told you the real purpose of your life is to BE HAPPY. How would it change the way you think, act, look, live, and work? How would it change your life?

If you’re a woman, you must believe that you are not only a goddess, but that it’s your birthright to be a happy goddess! Happy in your life, your relationships, your family, your home, and your work. That’s why I wrote this book—to help you re-acquaint yourself with the powerful goddess you already are. And because life should be simple, I made this book simple too. You can easily read and digest all of it in one sitting. The chapters are short but meaningful, and can be read in any order—each one containing practical suggestions and affirmations for real women living real lives. That’s you and me!

The Goddess of Happiness makes your life easier and happier. It’s a great gift to give yourself and all the women in your life. So, if you’re ready to put yourself first and choose happiness in your life, go for it! After all, you are a goddess, and you’re worth it!

Reading this fun and insightful book has reaffirmed my confidence in myself and the belief that every woman should treat herself as a goddess, and most importantly, be treated as one too! Start by taking the quiz to find out how happy you are and how happy you can be. After all, who wouldn't want to be happier? Debbie drives home the point (with style and humor in all the right spots) that WE hold the key to our own happiness.

I am going to buy this book for every woman I know, and while I'm at it, I'll recommend they pass it along to all the men in their life who would also benefit by it. This is not the kind of book you read once and put on the shelf or give away. You'll use the affirmations daily, write in your own thoughts, and read the chapters over and over--the messages are timeless. Unleash the power of happiness inside you! Go goddesses!

This book is a wonderful lighthearted but powerful walk to where we all should be as our own Goddess of Happiness. Filled with shared real life experiences, simple and easy how to lists, affirmations and space to make your own affirmations in each of the powerful 44 chapters. Lifting the heart and soul of the Goddess within to a place of true happiness that only needs this book as a map to get there and learn how to live there too. It is a great tool. I have used it as an oracle many times to lift others and share its bits of womanly wisdom. I will gift this book to anyone who has no idea who they are or how to get to where they can be truly a Goddess of Happiness.

I just love this book. Such a great girlfriend gift item. I really love the fact that I could pick up the book and read a chapter randomly and would be given a "message for the day", something to think about. And because each chapter is short, but chock-full of sage and humorous advice, it allows even the busiest "Goddess" (as the author refers to us women) to find the time to read. The book really inspired me to see how it is a choice to be happy. And after reading this, I Choose to be Happy all the time. It is much more fun. And girls just wanna have fun!!!

Debbie Gisonni, The Goddess of Happiness, reminds me to take control of my happiness every day. While blow-drying my hair, watching our dog play, or relaxing before bed, I open up her book to a random page and find an interesting story and easy to remember steps. You can tell that she truly wants every woman to be happy, but she doesn't force it, she gives you a gentle push.

Ok, confession of a rabid book addict - I REALLY, really really do intend to read most books I pick up (touch, taste, inhale) and yet habitually do my version of the Texas Two-Step.....scan topic sentences like a virus program, adopt the air of an English Professor, and then make a decision -toss on a pile with a mental note to "really really read", label it "Psych/Spirit 101 - don't insult me", or the good 'ol "keep to alleviate guilt (especially if it's a gift), and last but not least "Send to mom - she'll read it" (unless she's the one who sent it as a gift). Anyone relate? So Debbie G - you got me hook, line and sinker with The Goddess of Happiness and I'm so thrilled! Of course I expected it to be charming, witty, and insightful. But I did NOT expect to be awakened in a new and powerful way after all the heavy fare I've ingested recently (another trend I think we can all relate to). It's smart, practical and humorous, yes, but also quick (thank you!), quirky, balanced and yet how did you do it? Not fluffy! Think it, Say it, Feel it - you are the best!
