The father and son authors have created a magical landscape of Gods and elves, humans and magicians. The characters have become like old friends through the trials and travails of the epic story. The forces of good, led by a godling with a force of humans and elves, skirmish with agents of evil leading upto the final future showdown. The humans and elves were bitter enemies, who overcame the fear and hatred of centuries, coming together to rid the world of a common enemy, the powerful demigod in the East. The pieces are assembled (in Book 4 A Trial of Souls) for the ultimate showdown on a grand scale..
The characters and stories are rich in development and texture. The book is fascinating, moving and compelling. A great read.
This book could stand alone leading into the story and still be enjoyable but the preceding books would add enormously to the totality of the fantasy.

Overall the Godling Chronicles is an easy to read series with a very interesting story line. This installment has several battles taking place in one big war and the author goes between battles and narrators very well. As with the other installments the storyline is exceptionally interesting. A bonus in this installment is that you see Gewey's mental growth when he reunites with Lee.

I've been a fan of Mr. Anderson since book one of "The Godling Chronicles". His style and story telling improves with each book and "A Trial of Souls" is a wonderful read.

As each book is released I find myself rereading the previous editions and have never tired of doing so. The cultures, races, geography, mythology, in other words everything, fascinates this reader.

Book 4 answers many questions from earlier volumes and will have the reader eagerly awaiting Book 5. I only hope Mr. Anderson will be able to include a map of Gewey's world in the next volume or better yet on his website before the release of #5. Then I'll be reading all four "Godling Chronicles" once again!

The only critique I offer is the seeming predictability in the ebb and flow during battles. Maybe just once, one side can kick the others patout from start to finish. That said, it in no way lessens my enjoyment or enthusiasm for this series nor my respect for Mr. Anderson and his abilities.

Nice to read an author that doesn't engage in more gruesome brutality and graphic sexual portrayal. Violence is certainly a part of the story, but the author doesn't attempt to bury the reader beneath it. Far too many new authors attempt to one up each other in their portrayal of brutality and gore. I don't know whether this reflects the success of Game of Thrones, or whether it is merely a reflection of the increased tolerance of graphic and excessive violence tolerated by society in general. In any event, good fantasy requires neither extreme violence nor the expression of pornographic sexual encounters to be great fiction. The author is to be lauded for recognizing this.

The Godling Chronicles: A Trial of Souls, Book 4
By: Brian D. Anderson
Narrated by: Derek Perkins
I love the characters in here and how I got to know them like family, only a great writer can make that happen. It's been awhile since I read the first three books and once I started this one I realized how much I missed this series. Excellent world building, characters that are unique but have relatable qualities, great dialogue, and a terrific imagination!
Truly the perfect match for narration is Mr Perkins! He sounds like a voice that would exist in this world.

This fourth book was well done and kept me reading far too much in too short a time. While many things were revealed and resolved it did fail to reach the climax. I wish there had been more. It felt like the author was pressed to give another book without time to do it all in one. As I look forward to the last book I hope that some of the things foreshadowed in the third book are not forgotten. It seemed that the great gifts given by Gewey's father were neglected much in this tale and barely
developed in contrast to the way they were presented in book three. And then there is the life giving potion never mentioned at all... oh well. No regrets buying It!

Here you have book#4 and it's just as good as the first 3. I am so glad that I have found this series as it would so sad to have missed this great adventure. It's surprising in so much fantasy and with twist and unexpected turns along the way. Very well written and very complex you never know what waits around the next bend. On to #5.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fourth book and the way the story unfolded where Gewey develops/discovers more of his power and who he is. It's well told and paced well, although I really expected this book to bring the whole story to a close. I'm not sure how the fifth book will unfold but I hope it does not drag the story out.

I fell straight back into this vivid world, the characters are all brilliantly written. Geweys discoveries and trials with his power show a careful understanding of avoiding an "all powerful god" and how that would ruin the book. Bring on book five.

Again the story continues, easy reading with a not to complicated plot.
Still trying to work out how it's all going to end.
Basically a bit of fun. If you are a serious scifi/scifantasy reader then this series probably isn't for you
