This is no normal book on finance. It details the intimate synergies between American military power and the financial means of Wall Street and Washington to create the most extensive global empire since the fall of the British Empire a century ago. It traces the rise of America from the 1800s to the hegemonic global superpower on the ashes of the British Empire by the end of the Second World War.
Here’s some of what you will learn:
+ How a cabal of international Wall Street bankers in violation of the US Constitution made a coup d’etat in 1913 to create the private Federal Reserve to finance World War I and the rise of what they would later call the American Century.
+ How the Rockefeller family emerged during the Great Depression as the most influential family shaping America’s destiny into and after World War II.
+ The real agenda of the American Century triumphantly proclaimed in 1941.
+ The real relation between America’s military industrial complex and Bretton Woods Dollar System
+ How Wall Street banks systematically lifted all restraints on their expansion that ended in the 2007 Sub-prime meltdown and 2008 global financial crisis.
The dollar financial system of Wall Street was born not at a conference in Bretton Woods New Hampshire in 1944. It was born in the first days of August, 1945 with the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After that point the world was in no doubt who was the power to reckon with. This book is no ordinary book about money and finance. Rather it traces the history of money as an instrument of power; it traces the evolution of that power in the hands of a tiny elite that regards themselves as, quite literally, gods-The Gods of Money. How these gods abused their power and how they systematically set out to control the entire world is the subject.

The book's subtitle, "Wall Street and the Death of the American Century", suggests that the oligarchs behind the name `Wall Street' have over-reached in their imperial quest to expand the American Empire's `free markets'. Engdahl draws on discourses of key insiders from the North Atlantic capitalist class to reveal how they pursued a strategy in the early 1970s to once again transform the world, in response to external crises that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Under the rubric of their media-propagandized `free market' ideology, he argues that the Anglo-American oligarchy and loyal elites liberalized financial systems around the world through coercive means, first by `unpegging' the world's `reserve currency' - the US dollar - from a stable `gold standard' value. According to Engdahl, the Washington-Wall Street-City of London plutocracy engineered the oil shocks of the 1970s, and amid the resultant high inflation and economic sabotage, the Wall Street-owned Federal Reserve spiked up interest rates in 1979 in order to further weaken countries indebted to the international bankers. The resulting world debt crisis strengthened Wall Street's position to impose its policies around the globe.
"Gods of Money" shows that today's Washington-Wall Street-City of London plutocracy continues to prey upon the world through a global banking cartel (that has evidently been more than a century in the making). It is, therefore, truly ironic to consider that in today's `free market' era, the world's most callous centralized planners hark not from communist or fascist regimes of the 20th Century, but rather from the capitalist plutocracies of Britain and America. Indeed, the author convincingly traces the familial, fraternal and institutional linkages between the current Anglo-American plutocracy and their forebears, who planned two global wars (among other horrors). Small wonder then, that it remains a vital propagandist project to key insiders that Wall Street's secret history remains that way. As such, "Gods of Money" is a valuable antidote to the universal TV news understanding of the world.
If you wonder why we have been a Nation at war for 224 of our 242 year existence, you learn and will be astounded by explanations of how whole nations and their governments are manipulated into "joining the chorus" of the warmongers who are the installations of the Oligarchy Money Trust (also known, now, as the deep state, using the media (they're not your friend) to form "Public Opinion"- the title of another albeit difficult to read book showing the history of how the public, here and abroad, have been duped by their "trusted" Main Stream Media.
Engdall takes the reader along that 242 years timline of U.S. Histroy, exposing the The Money Trust and their designs that have nothing to do with the U.S. other than use it as a vehicle with which to conquer the World with total disregard for the people of the United States or their welfare. Within the U.S., England, and Europe, this group of ultra wealthy policy makers, like the Rothschild Family in Europe, J.P. Morgan and the Rockefeller Family in the West, who openly or coercively "installed" their chosen politicians and economists into government positions in order to carry out their "American Century"- the rape of the world's resources, not for the benefit of the U.S., but for the benefit of themselves and their enormous wealth, at ALL costs.
Also explained are the mechanizations of the intelligence and congressional areas of government as well as the Main Stream Media, all working in consort, sometimes clandestinely to control the public opinion, while they work their efforts to expand the American Empire and such resources from any country that has them. This strategy of Worldwide Hegemony(one State's power over another), referred to as The American Century, is the game plan with no regard to morals or humanity. You may prefer to not read the book and just keep your head in the sand. While you do either, our national debt and taxation skyrocket, not to your benefit but to those at the top...not for your benefit but, for the funding of the Military Industrial Intelligence Complex (MIIC) that sucks 60%+ of our national budget, every year (again, not for our benefit as a nation, but to add to their enormous wealth.
The book continues, explaining the inner workings of the Ponzi Scheme Wall Street that is another vehicle that is used to extract even more money from the hard working Americans that want to "invest for the future." Their boom/bust controls have made life miserable for a great many people and it wasn't an accident that took place in 1929 or 1987, or 2008.
You'll get angry and you'll be educated and, again, this is NOT a Conspiracy Theory Tale. This is fact with footnotes.

If you control the money, you control the entire world (H. Kissinger)
F. William Engdahl exposes masterfully with ground breaking investigations how a tiny ultra wealthy oligarchy took control of the US and the world's financial system and shaped the fate of life and death on our planet. (C. Quigley: `a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the world economy in a feudalist fashion.')
The continuous greatest hold-up in the world
A. Lincoln said that `the privilege of creating and issuing money is not only the supreme prerogative of Government, but also its greatest creative opportunity.' But, with the Federal Reserve Act a tiny consortium of private bankers took total control of the US money printing press and US monetary policies, using the faith and credit of the US government to fill their own pockets.
The battle for world financial supremacy
This consortium (mainly the Houses of Morgan and Rockefeller) attacked the London-controlled Gold Standard and replaced it in 1925 by the US controlled Gold Exchange Standard (GES) with its gold-dollar link.
In the face of a market crash and a severe economic downturn the FR chose to defend the GES with a severe discount rate hike. A monumental depression made a `leftist' New Deal necessary.
With the bankruptcy of its main commercial rivals, the US forced the Bretton-Woods Agreements through at the end of WW II. It took control of the world economic space (raw materials and markets) and imposed worldwide its economic policies of free trade and open markets through the BIRD, the IMF and GATT. Moreover, the dollar (with a fixed gold price) became the world's only reserve currency giving the Fed uncontrolled power to issue virtually unlimited amounts of dollars.
The full speed dollar printing to finance the Vietnam War forced President Nixon to cut the gold-dollar link. But, the dollar was rescued by a monumental rise in the oil (quoted in dollars) price. Another rescue was nevertheless necessary as Fed chairman Paul Volcker blew the interest rates into the stratosphere. Today, the outlook for the dollar seems to be extremely bleak.
Battles in the US
With the Glass-Steagall Act (splitting the depository banks from the insurance and investment companies) enacted in 1933 after the Wall Street Crash the House of Morgan was beaten by its main rival the House of the Rockefellers.
A frontal attack against the FR was launched by President Kennedy when his government printed outside the FR interest free US Notes backed by silver. He died before the could be pyblicly distributed.
President Reagan attacked the New Deal and introduced financial deregulation opening a window for big financial mergers which became `too big to fail'. Under Fed chairman A. Greenspan the Glass-Steagall Act was repealed. It all ended in 2007 in a worldwide financial tsunami when the global financial system collapsed.
World political supremacy
Strategically, the long arm of the financial consortium was the `Council on Foreign Relations', which shaped (shapes) US international policies.
By financing the European rivals in the two World Wars, the US not only bankrupted its main economic rivals, but it could lay its hands on the strategic European heartland.
After WW II the US reigned superbly, military (A-Bomb) and economically.
It defended its position all over the Western world, also in France where a financial and political attack by General De Gaulle was successfully parried.
Today, one of the two pillars of US domination (the dollar) fell from its throne. Can the US continue to finance the other pillar, unchallenged global military strength, in the face of a prolonged economic downturn?
F. William Engdahl wrote a fascinating, disturbing and courageous book. It is a must read for all historians and for all those who want to understand the world we live in.

What stood out for me from this book is the power the Rockefeller family have, their involvement in WWII (they part funded Hitler, illegally sold him oil for fighter jets by rerouting tankers through Panama, they also funded the French and UK, which ultimately led to the Dollar Standard - dollar is controlled by the Federal Reserve, which is part owned by the Rockefellers), the Rockefeller empire was worth $22bn in the 1920s and by 2007 Citigroup (owned by Rockefellers) held assets worth $2.3tn. Also their conrol of world oil I found fascinating, so much so I've just bought Engdahls 'A Century of War: Anglo-American Politics and the New World Order.
A fair amount of the financial technical stuff went over my head, understanding CDFs and Derivatives etc. but the rest of it I found fascinating.
Recommended.

Gods of Money should be read along with Engdahls's Century of War. Both are well written and informative. I knew a lot about this already but Engdahl's exposition of history is informative and entertaining.
The control of the money creation process has been usurped by International Bankers. These people instigate wars at will to further their own interests.
Some people dismiss all this as "conspiracy theory". Read the book and be astounded at the facts, and that this is no conspiracy but reality. Century of War is about controlling oil, and Gods of Money is about controlling money.
I look forward to reading other of Engdahl's books and I thank him for revealing the truth about our civilization.
