I really hope that the other reviewers are friends of this author. Otherwise I suspect that it might be the first book they've ever read. Not only was the book disjointed, poorly written and hard to read, but it was also a huge lesson in what's wrong with the English departments in our schools. There were so many grammatical and spelling errors that it made my skin crawl. I do not have a perfect command of the english language, but the mistakes in this book are blatantly obvious. Just having another person read this before it was put up for public viewing would have helped. I hope. With so many resources at our fingertips I would hope that this and any other author would be able to clean up the mistakes. Just a couple examples...Chapter 21, "Victoria was surprised to see what looked like actual mothers handing out in the park with their kids." Handing, really? A quick reread would have found that. Also in Chapter 21, "or he would dive right next to her at 5 mph," I could make a list a mile long with examples like this and of grammatical errors, but that's enough.

As far as the characters go, I found Victoria to be a weak woman. She ran home to Mom the moment things got tough and then preceded to spend an inordinate amount of time on the couch. And consequently went back to that state every time something real or perceived happened. Mike could have said a hundred times she was an "amazing woman" which he might have, but that didn't make it any more real.

This was a library book and I really feel like I should be able to get my September pick back. I finished it because I don't ever like to stop reading a book in the middle, but I feel like I might just be a little less smart because of it.

This author is in desperate need of an editor. Half of the sentences are nonsensical comma splices. Even if the grammar wasn't atrocious, the shallow characters, trite plotline, and unintelligible main character would doom this book.

I rarely give 5 stars (this is my first), but this is a gem!
Enjoyable writing style and light-hearted story: a twist on poor, little rich girl.
I even fell in love with the main character, initially a self-involved, shallow snob who evolves into a loving mother and a relatively self-sufficient woman.
If I had one criticism, it would be the happy-ever-after type ending with another man--one of several (including her husband) who pursues her . . . but then I'm not romantic (this book doesn't fall within the romance genre either).

Violence: * (1 out of 5 where 1 = no violence; 5 = VIOLENT!)

Victoria and her husband Trip live the "perfect" life in NYC. Designer clothes and shoes, staff to take care of them, an endless round of parties and events, and everything that money can buy. Until the fateful day that there is a knock on the door and armed men enter the apartment. Oddly enough, it is not a burglary but FBI agents who have come to seize their property. Victoria is in shock when they are allowed to take very few of their possessions. It is a short time later that she finds that her funds have been cut off, too. What's a newly penniless girl to do? The only option that is open is to return to the wealthy town where she grew up - on the wrong side of the tracks - and spent a lifetime trying to forget and never planned to return to. As she shows up on her mother and stepfather's door step she begins the process of being in survival mode and learns that her trappings of wealth might not be all that they were cracked up to be.

The story line moves along nicely and the portrayal of the wealthy, snooty Victoria who is brought down several pegs was quite good. Some nice humorous banter peppered the story and made you smile. A pleasant read all around, even if her relationship with the FBI agent who is assigned to follow her is unrealistic. I would read other books written by this author.

What a great book! Victoria begins the book as an snooty New Yorker and is brought down to reality, unexpectedly. The outcome is fun, adventerous and full of up and down emotions that are really relatable. It is great to see the evolving of her relationship with her children as she "comes to". The relating of the story makes you not want to finish it and leave these characters behind! Thank you for a great, fun read!

Mildly entertaining to see how Victoria handles the fall from grace, but sad to see how she just couldn't let go of he brand obsession - even as she's adjusting to her new life, she's judging all the other women based on their apparel. I did like seeing the relationship develop with Mike but the ending was rather unsatisfactory.

The character in this book was easy to relate too. She use to be poor, had lots of money, was poor again, I felt connected to this character and loved this book. Some very funny moments that made me laugh out loud. I finished this book in less than a day and highly recommend it. Makes you feel that maybe your life isn't so bad.

Do you really know what or who will make you happy? This woman went through an abrupt change to her life. She seemed to have it all, only to lose it with a quick knock on her door.

Are you strong enough to start over? Want to read how she did it?
