The only woman Lucas ever loved and wanted was someone that was off limits, his sister-in-law Maxie Sullivan. When the woman turned to him for help, he couldn't say no.
Maxie Sullivan found herself in trouble and the only man she thought to turn to was her best friend, Lucas Monroe. She'd always been in loved with him but never told him.
She went on to marry his brother only to regret it the moment it happened, Maxie was left a widow after she suffered a great loss. She thought her late husband took care of things but he left her on debts with no means to pay them off.
Maxie lost her job because of all the wrong deeds, her late husband had done. Lucas was glad to help her out but as spend more and more time together, old feelings and new ones started to resurface.
Liked the growing friendship between Lexie and Maxie. It was great to see that Kendall (Lexie's twin sister) was doing better. Lucas and his best friends were more like brothers than he ever been with his late brother.
When Lucas found out the he!! Maxie wenf through during the years she was married to his brother, let's just say that it was a good thing that the man was already dead. Even beyond the grave he was causing trouble for Lucas and Maxie.
In the end their love was stronger than anything thay life through at them, Maxie and Lucas finally got their heart desires and more.
GOING DOWN FAST was enchanting. It's the second installment in Carly Phillips' BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS series. Looking forward to Derek's story next. Fabulous job by Carly Phillips.
Lucas Monroe doesn’t have any problems finding women. Most classify him as a playboy with a lot of women ready to step in as his plus one. The problem for Lucas is the relationships never go anywhere because his heart belongs to a lady he can’t have, Maxie Sullivan who is married to another.
Maxie and Lucas were childhood friends. They are friends still even though situations prevent them from spending too much time together. Lucas still suffers from a hard childhood. As a young boy, his brother is the golden child, and Lucas suffers from the constant comparison. Lucas is the school geek and his brother, Keith is the school jock. Even today, with all his success, Lucas never measures up to his brother in his parents’ mind no matter how hard he works or how much success he achieves.
Both main characters deal with a lot of personal pain. Lucas can only be friends with the woman he loves because she is married to someone else. Maxie is in a bad marriage to a drunk and a cheater. She doesn’t let anyone know her pain until circumstances unfold that make it impossible for her to deny how miserable she is.
Lucas Monroe is another loveable creation by Carly Phillips. He is successful and goes out of his way to help his friends. He is there when Maxie is alone and suffering and feels there is no hope.
Maxie, like the other women in the series, is a strong woman who is working to overcome her many losses and mistakes. She is willing to ask for and accept help, but her ultimate goal is to stand on her own for once. Lucas steps in and learns how to give her space to stand strong. It is an enjoyable learning experience for the characters and the reader.
I enjoy Going Down Fast . Anyone who knows me knows that second chance romances and friends-to-lovers are some of my favorite scenarios. Going Down Fast combines these favorites with a little suspense to make a most enjoyable read. The only suggestion that would make the story a bit better for me is if there is more time with Lucas and his parents resolving their past. Their treatment of him is a big part of his past.
Also, the ending brought about a quick resolution. My guess is we will get a more of the couple in the next books. However, I wanted to experience more Lucas and Maxie. Still, I liked the book enough to purchase the audio, and I’ll listen again when I need a good, entertaining romance. Good job Carly. Waiting for the next billionaire.
