The Pretty Reckless has come a long way since they began. This album is definitely harder then her first, and I have blaring it in my truck for the past week now. Love it. Good buy. Highly recommended!

I was immediately attracted to the cover - kinda Wendy O Williams in composition. And attractive blonde with electrical tape body decor. Very nice, But then I saw the song "Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party."Several appropriate sound effects and (in todays environment with gun issues arising all over the country then they claim "

Then boom - Does it make you feel like a man?
Boom - It's not the size we understand.
Boom - You think you're gonna get with me.
You're never gonna get with me.
You're never gonna dance with me.

And my favorite public service lyric follows;

Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party? Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party?
Everybody's got one. There's nothin' new about it.
Wanna make a statement? Ya shoulda come without it.

I liked the album from the start. It's different than the stuff we usually get, My son was in his "Dad likes it so it must suck" mode. that he sometimes adopts. My buddy in downtown NYC (Bill) was initially leaning toward my sons (David) rating, I always knew David often had questionable musical taste. And he often questioned my musical tastes.

As I told David once; "I raised you to form your our opinions, To make up your own mind. To build your believe system on arguments you have been presented with, I did NOT encourage you to develop your own opinions so you could beat other people to death with them.

Finally, NYC Bill reasoned that the gritty presentation made it fit in perfectly with the grit of the city.

I still like it. No, I don't think the band is going to push any legends, but they are talented and interesting.

They've got a few LPs CDs and EPs out and they're all pretty good. Definitely well worth checking out.

The harmonies in this album make me think of The Civil Wars with an edge. I was anticipating this release with the teasers that were available and was not disappointed. The music has a little of a gothic feel as well. An enjoyable listen all around.

Just got this album and already love it. It has a great hard rock vibe and grit. Reminds me a lot of Joan Jett but a bit dirtier, with a lot of sexual innuendo.

Taylor's voice is still super powerful, but the writing was significantly better on the first album. On the first album, every single track was very well done, and really catchy. On this there are a few great tracks, but the rest are just okay. While Taylor's vocals are top notch the entire time, without great writing to back them up, it just doesn't feel as satisfying as the first album.

A very different sound from their earlier music, GTH is edgy and tampers with wordplay...which is always a plus to me. I like lyrics that are complex and mean different things to different people. This album is not going to mean the same thing to any two people who listen to it. You can go with the very literally meaning of each song or dig much much deeper. The music is different than tracks on Light Me Up and the Hit Me Like A Man IP. They incorporate several different sounds into each song (from different genres) into songs like Heaven Knows, Absolution, Waiting for a Friend, and others! Definitely worth a preview and I'd say a purchase! :) Make sure to buy the deluxe one with the bonus acoustic songs.

I swore I wasn't going to loose track of staying aware of what was happening in the music scene. However, after having endured twenty five years or more of mindless electonically synthesized "music" I went back to my roots. I didn't think anybody actually sang anymore, or could play more than four notes in a riff without making a loop out of it. Slowly, I learned that there are bands out there that are making some great music with intelligence, and even coming up with some fresh and energic material. On a whim I took a chance on the Pretty Reckless, whom I had never heard of before, and was blown away. I can't believe such a skinny whisp of a girl ( as you can see from the photos) can belt those songs out as she does. Great lyrics. This band has talent. Highly recommended.

I've heard complaints about how much Taylor Momsen has changed from her work as a child and teenager. I am not familiar with that part of her career. Judging judging just her work with this band, she's doing great stuff. I like this album a lot.
