Great read. This book focuses on the daily lifestyle of the common man of NY State in the early 1800's. Since relatively little has been written on that topic, this book is invaluable to the reader who would understand the struggles and joys of earlier generations. Dry it is certainly not. It is one of the most interesting books I have ever read!

It is interesting as a concise history of a few specific counties in NY state in the 1700-1800's. Unfortunately, I thought it would be a run down of each craft of the golden age & how to do the crafts today. It is not a how-to book. I enjoy history, although this read is a little dry to wade through.
