Del has been busy...

...although you might not have known it. His last "official" solo release was "The 11th Hour" in 2008. This album received some brutal reviews, and for good reason. It was simplistic and sloppy at times. Fans were astonishingly asking, "it took you seven years to record this album?" I liked the album overall, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat disappointed with it. Luckily, my disappointment was short lived because almost immediately after "The Eleventh Hour" Del went into a work frenzy, making four albums in three years.

The first was "Funk Man" in 2009, a free album released via bandcamp.

The next was "Automatik Statik," also released in 2009 to celebrate the launch of Del's new website.

Then last year in 2010, Del released "It Ain't Illegal Yet," Del's third and most recent self-released album. Unlike the previous two albums this had a physical cd release.

And now we have "Golden Era," a triple cd release that contains the newest album as well as "Funk Man" and "Automatik Statik." All three albums are great in their own ways.

I could go into detail about each album, but I don't want to turn this review into a novel. What I can summarize is that each album has at least a few songs that will completely blow your mind, assuming you are somewhat of a Del fan to start. The rest of the songs are stellar in their own ways, and run the gamut on why Del is so great. Whether it be video games, wack emcess, clever word play or just having fun, you will find something to love in these albums.

Del has spent the past few years working his ass off to make music for his fans. Hopefully they appreciate it.

Good stuff, but I'm worried about Del

Del's "Golden Age" is undeniably a great display of veteran skill. There really isn't a single bad song, an achievement matched by only a handful of rap albums in history. (And of course, none of those had anything close to "Golden Age"'s 32 (!) tracks over 3 discs.) But there also isn't one that stands out as a true head-banger, which is perhaps even rarer. After a few listens, you notice a few other odd things: There isn't a single voice besides Del's throughout the whole affair, not so much as an "uhhh!" from some other Heiroglyphics MC. And every single song overflows with angry "sucka MC" disses -- keep in mind, this is Del, who has rapped about everything from his love of video games to the problem of too many people sleeping on his couch. You're eventually left with the odd feeling that Del has locked himself alone in a basement somewhere and is compulsively recording another solid but unspectacular track every day in order to keep the demons at bay. In his old age, Del is coming across as a sort of rapping Unabomber: brilliant and prolific, but perhaps a bit too misanthropic for his own good.

Mistadobalina makes me sick with his fradulent behavior, gonna make me flip and then an army can't save ya.

I'll remember del tha funkee homosapien till the day I die. Not my favorite album of his, but maybe I'll like it more in the year 3030.

If you don't know del, then listen to "if you must", it's a classic.

Liked most of Dels cds around the 1993 to 1998 years but this new 3 cd pack was ok but not the standout lyrical skill that i was expecting. Its still good but could be greater if he slowed down a bit and had some better choice of music that goes supreme with his flow. Maybe its just me though?
