For the first time in English! A collection of thirty-five meditations of St. Anthony Mary Claret based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Even during St. Anthony's lifetime, this book "produced marvelous results in such a way that, provided sinners make the Exercise well, they will be converted, while the just will be strengthened and perfected in grace." Indeed, these pages contain some of the finest spiritual reading available. The meditations are arranged so that they can be followed during a formal retreat or can be read privately as spiritual reading when you have just a few moments to take in a point or two.

The product review states: "The meditations are arranged so that they can be followed during a formal retreat or can be read privately as spiritual reading when you have just a few moments to take in a point or two." That is incorrect. That is not how these devotions are intended to be read. You need at least an hour for each meditation - otherwise you will be ignoring the spiritual exercises's directions, misusing them, and kidding yourself with a bogus superficial spirituality - precisely the "lukewarm" spirit these devotions are intended to purge. A similarly valuable book for Roman Catholics is The Hidden Treasure: Or, the Value and Excellence of Holy Mass. [Followed By] Prayers for Mass, and Other Devotions.
This book's purpose is to flesh out the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. If you look at the Spiritual Exercises, you may feel at a loss as how best to proceed. With this book you can take full advantage of the Spiritual Exercises.
