"Using Steve's processes, our company has been an Inc. 5000 company three years in a row. When I started working with Steve he provided clarity on how my website should provide a clear picture of my company, but through the eyes of our customers. He completely changed the focus of our website from talking about my company to focusing on our customers and how we will be a guide for their success. We transformed from a company that sells products, to a company that provides processes that improve our customer's profitability."
--Lloyd Brown, president of SCS (Smart Chemical Services)
"We've spent the last two years developing a unique shoe brand that supports indigenous artisans and helps to preserve their ancient culture. By following the insights shared in this book, we have avoided costly mistakes and are now launching with a solid foundation and a clear path forward."

As a small business owner who manages our marketing and online sales efforts, I am always concerned about staying up-to-date with the ever-changing best practices for getting and servicing leads and clients. The timeliness of this book couldn't have been better, because we are in the midst of a huge shift in our business environment requiring an in-depth assessment of our marketing and sales processes and strategies.
The Golden Toilet provided the fresh insight I needed to energize our efforts. It immediately began changing how I viewed the websites I visited for personal and business purposes. Through my everyday online activities the concepts were proven sound, and I found myself excited about the possibilities for building on our current systems and by the new ideas it inspired.
I was immediately able to use some of the concepts in our social media and on our website. We have been updating existing pages on our site and adding new content, and we have already begun incorporating the Golden Toilet concepts into those processes. I celebrated the best practices we already had in place (especially our CRM), and was excited to gain a greater understanding of how to use our recently acquired automation tools to their fullest benefit. I stood back and looked at our processes holistically, and began reimagining our approach from start to finish. And I was immediately able to reallocate half of our SEO budget (not ready to give it up completely yet) to other investments that I am confident will have a greater return on investment long-term.
It is important to note that, as the book says, The Golden Toilet just provides a 30,000 foot level view. It is not an in-depth "how to" manual, and definitely encourages readers to consider hiring ROI Online (the author's company) or another qualified firm. But it also left me understanding and appreciating the expertise and value that ROI Online provides; I in no way felt this was just a veiled sales pitch. And I ended the book feeling inspired and encouraged about all the possibilities for helping my small business stand out against and above even my most polished competitors.
I first learned about this book when I got the opportunity to interview the author Mr. Steve Brown. To prepare for my podcast, I decided to read his book. While the book itself is geared towards a business with multiple employees, I got a lot out of it as an independent author. What I found most useful was the overall description of the process of marketing, and how scale-able those processes can be.
There were also several suggestions in the book which were immediately applicable to my situation. And I am happy to say that I was able to put these suggestions into place to immediate effect.
Beautifully written and engaging, I love Steve Brown’s way of writing. It was funny, unapologetic, and made sense to someone like me who does not have a firm marketing background. That is the key for a book like this, it must be applicable to the lowest common denominator. And I can guarantee, I am that lowest common denominator.
Presented in a way that is easily understandable, and easily trackable, Steve includes multiple resources to help you along your way. While this book is an item to buy, he does not come at you with a heavy sales pitch for his company’s other services. As a matter of fact, he offers quite a bit of advice for free, as well as pointing you to resources which can be immediately helpful.
I do not read a ton of nonfiction, but I’m glad I took the time to read, “The Golden Toilet: Stop Flushing Your Marketing Budget into Your Website and Build a System That Grows Your Business.”
For anyone who must make marketing part of their normal routine, I highly suggest this book. That only will help you figure out the course you need to take, but it will point you to resources that you need to internalize to make your business a success.
I read The Golden Toilet to prepare for an upcoming job interview. I needed to know what to expect from online marketing and sales today. With the knowledge from this book, I was able to wow the interviewer with technical knowledge, ideas on how to be a valuable team member, and confidence to move the team into a smoother sales/marketing/customer experience process. I was also able to deepen my understanding of what business owners wrestle in today’s online business and their transition into online marketing.
I recommend reading The Golden Toilet if you are in the market for a job in marketing, sales, or customer experience.
