Goldenrod (TM) USA was bought out by Battenfeld China. What's the difference?
Godenrod (TM): lifetime warranty
Battenfeld: cheaper made and only a one year warranty
The Goldenrod (TM) heats to 150F, Battenfeld heats to 120F
One specific feature I like is the customizable cord length. My safe has a 110V outlet inside, and I cut the cord to the perfect length to make it less obtrusive and harder to snag with the butt of a weapon. Instructions were very clear for how to cut and terminate the cord.
Mounting the goldenrod is also quite easy, you just screw two small brackets into the insulation in the safe and it snap in, I mounted mine horizontally directly below the door to allow the heat to rise throughout the safe.
One final note is that although it doesn't get particularly hot the GoldenRod is nevertheless unpleasantly hot to the touch, so take car when working around it in the bottom of the safe.
If you are deciding on ways to lower the relative humidity in your space the essential question is if there is a reason to avoid raising the temperature substantially. If there is you should buy a dehumidifier that actually removes moisture. If warming the objects inside the space is not objectionable this is the way to go, quiet and maintenance-free. Be advised that glued paper and (improperly seasoned) wooden objects may shrink and crack if the relative humidity is decreased too quickly. (wood gunstocks are seasoned prior to shaping should not be a concern unless they have been exposed to extreme moisture)
The real reason I posted this review is to mention what few if any reviewers do- what happens when one removes the object from the space to use it. Since this product warms the objects, when they are introduced to the outside air they are almost certainly warmer than that air and therefore there is no condensation on the object. That is a very good thing and is the reason experienced hunters when camping often sleep against their unloaded rifles so the scopes stay warm and less prone to fogging in the early morning if a warm air mass comes through or they accidentally breathe on the lens, or if they have to hug the rifle to keep rain out of its action their moist body heat is less prone to fog the scope. I do this and throw my sleeping bag over my rifle to keep it warm until I've eaten and am ready to leave camp.
Where I live the outside air is frequently warmer and moister than my house, basement, or garage and this product allows me to take the object (usually a firearm) outside without condensation forming on it, or worse, inside it. It is not a substitute for proper maintenance (in fact the elevated temperature will encourage oxidation slightly but is negligible compared to the mildew threat it counters) but this product definitely creates a better storage environment for tools such as firearms.
