Meet GolfSense

GolfSense is a system (wearable motion sensor + free mobile app) that helps you analyze and improve your golf swing. Attach the GolfSense motion sensor to any golf glove and swing away to get instant feedback and helpful tips on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. GolfSense empowers you with the ability to see and analyze exactly what your club and hands are doing in 3D space throughout your backswing, downswing and follow-through. You can evaluate your swing plane, club path and hand path from different angles and easily identify common flaws like coming over the top. For the first time in golf history, now you can evaluate the quality of your swing using a single metric: SwingScore is a revolutionary feature that tells you how closely you're achieving your personal swing goals. You can choose goals based on your skill level or use your own best swings or a coach's swing as your benchmark. GolfSense also makes it easy to see what aspects of your swing you need to work on by using a color-coded dashboard. The GolfSense motion sensor captures 3D swing data with incredible precision and wirelessly sends that data to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth after every swing. It's feather light, features a rechargeable 5-hour battery, works for both right- and left-handed players and easily attaches to any golf glove.

Because of my job (PGA Professional), I have reviewed 4 swing analyzers that give feedback to your iPhone/Android device. The Golf Sense is hands down the best for a number of reasons. 1) It works. Trust me on this, many don't even connect or work with the blue tooth - very frustrating. 2) The Golf Sense is is on your glove not the club. This makes a big difference because ON the club has issues. It changes the overall swing weight of the club and some of these devices are BIG and clunky. On most you can feel the device especially if it is not secure. (Has a rattling feeling and 1 even detached on me.) The GS is on the hand, its light so you cant feel - it so zero effect on the club. 3) You don't have to keep taking it off when you change clubs which is a HUGE pain. 4) Over the last 2 months, they have kept updating the APP improved as I have used it. And 5) I think the DATA is more accurate. Hopefully this helps save you some time, money, and a lot of frustration.

I worked in the golf equipment industry for nearly a decade and one thing that was constant was the influx of new products. The products varied in popularity and customer acceptance, but in truth they rarely made much of an impact (the titanium driver being one very notable exception). While expert golfers can benefit from the nuances of new and improved clubs - most golfers need something a little more basic - consistent muscle memory. The ability to have a consistent and controlled swing will trump any club that you can buy in the market.

Since a consistent and controlled swing should be the goal - what is the easiest way to get there? I wish I new the answer... because if I did, I may still be in the golf equipment industry. However, the GolfSense 3D Swing Analyzer is certainly a step in the right direction. The GolfSense Swing Analyzer is a tool that allows to you to monitor, adjust, and compare your swing. While it certainly isn't a fix all, but when combined with lessons, video, and the driving range you should have the tools that you need to help create a consistent repeatable swing for your game.

- It works much like a Wii remote in determining the angular momentum, velocity, and directions of your hand. These measurements are then converted to a computerized golf swing that can be viewed from a variety of angles and aspects (see the video). In addition, you have the ability to compare swings across time ranges to see how consistent (or inconsistent) your swing has been over time.

- You will need to download an app for your iPhone/iPad - the app is what you use to see and compare your swings.... and the GolfSense Swing Analyzer will not work without the app.

I retired and decided to start golfing again after a 10 year hiatus (never was very good), so I'm pretty much a beginner. Being a bit of a techie I bought this to help me with my swing. This is a nicely done/cool piece of technology, I really had no problem working with it once I figured out the user interface. It paired easily with my Samsung Galaxy S4, calibrated ok and started collecting data right away. The Analysis feature reported that overall my swing was pretty good, however in reality, my shots continued to suck. For example, the analysis showed an overall good swing when I was topping the ball or slicing it badly. To be fair, It did give me some good data on my swing, and helped me improve on it a bit, but don't get your expectations too high on this. When you have a bad shot, unless you really screwed up your swing, don't expect it to tell you where you went wrong, there are many parts of a swing that it doesn't really tell you about (club face, weight shift, wrist action, lag and the zillion other things that can go wrong.). I really don't know if the data is there but the analysis is lacking or if its doing the best it can with the data provided by the sensor. Hopefully the software will continue to improve.

I am a 12.5 index and like most people at my level, I play 8 to 10 times a month, practice but likely not correctly or enough. I have taken lessons and generally do well while I am with the pro but have a tough time taking what I learn from the range to the course. I am a visual learner and do best when I can see clearly what it is that I am doing wrong and what I need to work on to improve. GolfSense is the only product that I have found that gives me a great visual of my swing and allows me to clearly see where I have issues. My biggest problems have to do with my swing plane, back swing position and tempo. I tend to get very quick and short with my back swing while playing a round. This became clear to me when I took GolfSense on the course for practice rounds and could see that I get quick and shorten my swing significantly while playing vs on the range. GolfSense offers a lot and although I am pretty focused on my problems which GolfSense gives me great looks at with the plane comparison, tempo and back swing position views. I do look at some of the other aspects that are measured by this product such as club head speed, hand speed, plane comparison and hip rotation. In my opinion GolfSense is very easy to use and understand. It allows me to work on my game at home, on the range and on the course. It measures and provides me with great information that I can see, make actionable so that I can improve and hopefully get to a single digit and remain there.
