Product Description

Product Description

Ghost Castle is a classic three dimensional haunted castle race game! The entire game board is a 3D supernatural haunted house complete with doors and rooms and eerie decorations. Players move their pawns around the board trying to be the first to escape the spooky castle. Along the way players spin the spinner that might have you drop the magical skull down the chimney, move forward a step or other scary moves. When the skull rolls out in one of the four quadrants of the game board, it will actually make a creepy object in the house move like magic (or ghosts!) (bear trap, bear rug, knight in armor, etc.)! If a player's pawn is hit by the skull or one of the scary moving items, they are sent backwards to a "safe" spot. The first to escape the castle wins the game. It's scary fun!

From the Manufacturer

Are you brave enough to enter the Ghost Castle? Face your fears and be the first to lock the ghost in his coffin to win. Enter if you dare. 2-4 players, ages 6 and up. No batteries required.

I just received this game and it took a little while to put it together and a couple of the traps are very touch sensitive but overall we do like the game. The game play is very similar to the vintage games "Which Witch" and "Real Ghost Busters". In this game you get a game spinner, one dice, 4 masks of terror (which make you miss your turn), 4 character playing pieces, and a skull to drop down the coffin. The first player to the top of the stairs wins. I wish this game came with a metal whamo ball like the Which Witch game had because the plastic weighted skull doesn't seem heavy enough to activate the knight trap. The skull keeps getting stuck behind it instead of activating it. I'm going to post some pictures so you can see what this new version looks like.

GREAT GAME!! This must be one of the most ingenious designs for a board game ever, the sheer novelty factor is fabulous. I'd been looking for "Haunted House" for a long while as I had fond memories of that game as a kid. I wasn't aware it had been re-released a few times since the 70s under "Ghost Castle", or "Which Witch" depending on your country. THIS VERSION FROM GOLIATH IS THE BEST!!!

It's obvious, if you are familiar with any other version, that the team at Goliath have really put some extra thought into this. It has something like twice as many traps as the other versions. So not only is the art-work re-designed, but the tower that activates the traps and the traps themselves. This makes for far more interesting play than the other versions. Definitely the most developed version, and thoughtfully done too. I've changed the rules a bit for play ; instead of "scared stiff" as per rules which really can halt the game, just send that player back to a red danger space and activate the skull. Makes for more fun and doesn't single out a stalled player for so long. Another mod I make to the rules is if you are hit or move in any way whatsoever you go back to a blue space (the rules are more lenient on that one).

List of traps / improvements over other versions:
1) GRABBING TREE, excellent design! The branches actually GRAB the players across two spaces
2) GATE falls down over doorway. Note that for both 1 and 2 here these were just ARTWORK ideas before that have now come to life.

The first thing noticed is the higher level of detail in the game. The 3 extra traps was quite a feat to fit into the tower but they all work. This is a great edition to your game collection as my 5-7 year olds enjoy the fast paced game.

I got this on sale for my 3.5 year old, who loves all things spooky. We have a great time playing. I didn't have trouble setting it up but it isn't designed for easy breakdown (thus only 4 stars). Like other reviewers, I found one of the bear trap pretty impossible to set but all the others are easy. The little skull is a fun touch. There is a little more to game play than the Scooby game so I think she will grow with this one a little better. You roll the dice, move your figure, and then spin to see what happens (roll again, drop skull to set off a trap, end turn, or put on a scared mask until you set your character free). Since she is so young, I skip the scare masks to keep the game moving for a shorter attention span. I have yet to win. My daughter has a knack for landing on the revolving door shortcut and I have a knack for getting caught in traps. *sigh* Overall a fun, simple game.

Unlike the gorgeous Ravensburger games, this one, while fun, is not the sturdiest construction. We had fun with this game simply because my son loves scary stuff. Besides being flimsy, I also wasn't thrilled that setup and take down which both take a while. The overall look of the game is cute though...

This is supposed to be a modern re-release of the Milton Bradley game of the same name, which takes players through a haunted castle, their goal being to slam the coffin lid shut on the ghosts haunting it. However, there are a multitude of traps that can screw you up on your way there, which is the main draw of this game. Trees can grab you, you can get snapped up by a beartrap, or you might get beaned in the head by a giant skull.

I got this for the Halloween programme at my library last year (I loved the thought of having a game like this as a child), and I must say...the setup is really irritating. Two immediately come to mind - the Bear Trap and the Rug. The Beartrap is borderline impossible to snap into place perfectly, and, when triggered, will put you through that lovely ritual of setting it up all over again. And again. The Rug is even worse. Sometimes, it doesn't even work at all, and the instructions don't seem to help. And keep in mind, these traps will be going off very often due to the spinner.

I only rated this as 'okay' because your kids can have fun with the game, and its gimmicks. But the gimmicks are the problem - as clever as they are, they rob the fun right out of it because half spring up on a hair trigger, and the two I've mentioned are badly implemented. If I may recommend a better Halloween game that you can try, hunt down a copy of Milton Bradley's Boogeyman, or Halloween Spot it!

Pass on this one.
