This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review

I don't really know where to go with this review... Gone with the Wolf started off really great, I was having a good time and then it just suddenly fell flat...

If you had asked me how I felt about this book when I had only read half of it, I would have told you it was fun, sexy and I was really loving it. But now that I've completed the book I can't really say that much for the second half. I also don't know if the same characters continue into the next part of this series because there is no indication as to what's actually happening in the second part of this series. Will it be new characters? Will we continue with Drake & Emilia's story? I really can't tell you because I have absolutely no idea. But what I can tell you is that if this story continues with a second book, it might actually make me feel better about this book in the end... but only a fraction better.

Here are my issues:

* Like I said, all went well during the first half of the book. From half-way onwards... it was just boring and I had to force myself through the rest of it.

* Emilia started to annoy me at one point. Don't get me wrong, I really liked her in the beginning, but I felt as if she just didn't grow much during the book... even though she finds out something that's majorly life altering... she didn't change at all. She remained as stubborn as she was from the start and I can't put my finger on it... she just turned out to be really bland.

* Drake was ok. Not a top Alpha male or Alpha wolf rather. He ended up just really being part of the furniture and not a prominent part in Gone with the Wolf.

* The break in the plot was strange.

Gone with the Wolf is the story of highly-strung CEO and Alpha Wolf, Drake Wilder, and Emilia Hudson - a temp secretary at his firm with an ulterior motive.

When I picked this book up, I didn't have high expectations but tried to get into it with an open mind. So many romance writers are scratching their itch for some hot CEO on secretary action at the moment, and I was ready to find out why. Suffice it to say, this book didn't really go in that direction at all, despite what the blurb would have you believe.

At the beginning of the book, Emilia is almost single minded in perusing Wilder for the wrongs she thinks he's done her - his company, Wilder Financial, seems to think they own the building she bought years ago; the one where her beloved bar is already struggling to stay afloat. This issue, which is given so much attention in the first part of the book, promptly turns into a subplot, then dies in the arse (pardon my French) when Drake's romantic intentions begin to consume the author's attention. Emilia's whole crusade with the bar just sort of fizzles out - though admittedly, the author does make some attempt to show us she hasn't forgotten.

Miller goes to great lengths to describe her heroine as a no-nonsense, wild kind of gal. My question is; what does she actually do that's considered `free spirited'? There's not enough evidence of this, except for the fact that Drake keeps saying it. Over and over again. In my opinion, a good writer can illustrate a character without directly labeling them, as the author has done here. Emilia struck me as a poorly written character, and it was incredibly distracting. One minute she's super mad with Drake, then she's madly in love with him.

I love shifter books, so jumped at the chance to read this one when it came up at NetGalley.

This is first in the Seattle Wolf Pack Series.

Emelia, a bar owner and office temp, is annoyed, offended and feels unjustly used when the bar she was told she owns is now held by Drake Wilder. Emi takes a job as a temp in his corporation, hoping to speak to him, but he proves elusive. She schemes to confront him the office Halloween party held in his home. She's dressed as Little Red Riding Hood. In the wine cellar she meets this wonderfully attractive man, who kisses like sin, not knowing that he is her boss. Once she realized who he is, and he her, that's when the sparks fly. Drake, once he realized that she was his Luminary, his mate for eternity, had hoped to ease her into his world. He invites her to a gala where she is thrust into the shifter world when Drake's brother, Silas, a truly nutso shifter with delusions of grandeur, confronts her.

I was a bit shocked at the lengths that Emi, while working in his office as a temp, went to disrupt his business. The issue with her bar kind of fizzled out, too. In fact, there were several threads that just went nowhere. There was a lot of "telling" rather than "showing" in this book.

At one point, Alpha Drake, lets Emi go into hiding without searching for her for three days. He would get physically ill if he didn't see her...and yet he let three days go by without seeking her out? They also had this bonding connection, but he didn't feel her massive fear? Yes, I found that odd. This is the first book in a series, so there was world-building going on, I understand that.

New shifter worlds are enticing, and I have high hopes for the next book. With Logan, maybe?
