Praise for The Good Dream:

"The story of a woman's love, sacrifice, and bravery to save a small, wounded boy, Donna VanLiere has faithfully re-created the South of the 1950s, in both the innocence of the time and its evil. It's a beautiful story."--Kathleen Kent, bestselling author of The Heretic's Daughter

"The Good Dream is a great story of people saving each other in the unlikeliest ways. A heartwarming winner of a book."  -- Jenna Blum, bestselling author of The Stormchasers

“Both heartrending and redemptive, The Good Dream imagines the profound power that love holds to change a life.”--- Katherine Howe, bestselling author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

Donna VanLiere has created a marvelous character in Ivorie of Morgan Hill, Tennessee.  Hers is a compelling story of a young woman who must choose between her dreams and saving a boy she is told is forever damaged.  Her struggle will intrigue you, entertain you, and will make you think important thoughts.  That's about as much as we can ask a novel to do.  - Homer Hickam, author of Rocket Boys/October Sky and The Keeper's Son.

"Written with all the gumption of its Tennessee characters, The Good Dream is a great story of people saving each other in the unlikeliest ways.  A heartwarming winner of a book."  -- Jenna Blum, New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Save Us and The Stormchasers

"Donna VanLiere has woven an intoxicating Southern gothic tale of solitary Ivorie Walker, a capable young woman who must confront the terrible secrets that lie below the placid surface of life in the 1950s Tennessee countryside. At times both heartrending and redemptive, The Good Dream imagines the profound power that love holds to change a life, while tracing the reverberations that one woman's courage can send tearing through an entire community."— Katherine Howe, New York Times bestselling author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

"In The Good Dream, Donna VanLiere has created a heartwarming story of redemption and has shown the world that she's not just for Christmas anymore."--Richard Paul Evans, #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box, Lost December, and Miles to Go

"The Good Dream snares the reader right from the start.  DonnaVanLiere's pitch perfect voice captures all the country charm and mystery of a long-ago time and place with its many acts of kindness and courage, as well as its secrets." - Mary McGarry Morris, New York Times bestselling author of Songs in Ordinary Time

I am one of Donna's Dream Team that got an advanced copy of this book. I loved The Good Dream. It took us back to when life was more simple. There were no computers or cell phones. Also there was more time spent with family. It tells the story of two people who are alone. Their relationship takes time to develop but in the end their love for each other is very genuine. This is a must buy book. You won't be sorry. Hopefully this story will continue in another book in the future. We all want to know how Ivorie and the boy are doing.Good job Donna!!

Despite the amazing reviews of The Good Dream by Donna VanLiere, I was hesitant about reading it once hearing that the author was described as an inspirational Christian writer. I was nervous about the book being too preachy or religious, but I was wrong. I absolutely loved this story. In fact, I would consider it one of my top five favorite novels for 2012. As the plot has been discussed at length by other reviewers, I will just provide my overall impressions of the book.

The Good Dream is a story with substance that takes place in a small Tennessee town. The characters are so beautifully developed, that the reader feels a closeness with them. Simply summarized, Ivorie, one of the nicest, kindest characters, along with her brother, Henry, who also has a special way about him, and a cast of quirky characters, save a severely abused boy. But, the story is far from simplistic. As Ivorie helps this child, she saves her own lonely life as well.

It is a book about values and about doing what's right in the face of adversity, challenges and hardships. If this book represents Christian Fiction, then I have found a new genre to devour. I highly recommend this book. It is not to be missed.

Donna VanLiere really knocked it out of the park with this book. She has a way of pulling you into the story, and the flow of the book makes it easy and exciting to read. The characters come to life and you feel transported into Ivorie's world and struggles. It is a heartwarming book that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. You will laugh, cry, and get angry, but you will not be able to stop reading. I would also recommend reading Angels of Morgan Hill because it has some of the same characters.

I was fortunate to recieve an ARE of this book, and I promised to write a review. I gladly do so because it is an excellent book! It didn't take long for me to get caught up in this wonderful book! I got caught up in the main character's life, and all the townspeople as well. The main character ends up following her heart and risks loosing a man she is interested in, but she takes the plunge anyway to help a little mute boy from up in the hills. She risks the love of a man, and risks the rebuke of the people in the town also. But she follows her heart, and helps this little boy. I could not help but feel empathy for the boy as well as her. There is also a secret that is reveled that adds to the story. Ms. VanLiere also addresses many issues that were thought provoking to me as the reader, ...Not living with regret, the importance of courage and hope, and can beauty come from ashes?, are just to mention a few. I recommended this book to my bible study group, as well as my friends. It is one that I will go back and reread!

I have read almost all of Donna's books including her autobiography and have enjoyed them all. I think I like them because she uses the most average of people and you would be able to relate to at least one of them. They all have a need fulfilled in their life by the end of the story. I would recommend the Good Dream but it does deal with the hard issue of abuse and in the end you are celebrating with the heroine and her newfound little friend, but to get to that there are hardtimes and ugly moments. Be ready to be touched. I was waiting for a bit more scripture or christian truth to come out, it seemed a little abstract, but perhaps that was just the way the characters were to be portrayed. I enjoyed it!

This was an awesome book. I have recommended it to all of my friends. I got up in the middle of the night to finish reading it because I couldn't wait to see how it ended. It was a true example of a Women's triumph over evil. She never gave up and through her goodness changed the lives of those around her. It is a heartwarming book that gave me my faith back that there are good people in this world that would go to any extreme to help children!!! Its a must read!!!

I have read Donna's Christmas books and have enjoyed them all. The Good Dream is very different, but still good. It is set in the 1950's and tells of the relationship of an "old maid" and a little boy. There are places in the book that are hard to read and you will probably cry, but it has a very good message of doing what you know is right in your heart despite what others think.

First of all, I should disclose that I am not a casual reader. My Amazon bill is large and reading is my number one hobby. It has been a very long time since I have read a book that touched me this deeply. It is simply some of the best literature I have encountered.

The story is heart wrenching and the author's expertise is nothing short of amazing. Her ability to develop the characters causes you to connect and bond with them immediately. From that moment forward, you won't put this book down. You truly feel like you are living in small town Tennessee in the 1950s. Her weaving of the culture, the landscape, the time period and the geography into the story is brilliant. She has the gift of turning words into a symphony that captures your emotion and interest at every turn.

This is a story that could play out in every American town and city today. So many children are neglected, abused, left to fend for themselves with no one to care. Sarah Ivorie is the saint that so many of us could be. She shows us that to unconditionally give of oneself brings great personal reward. Thank you Ms. VanLiere for a simply beautiful read. I have ordered two more of your books and anxiously await a sequel. Peter's future is very bright!
