The is a sure to become a "collector's" item in the future. There are less and less venues presenting jazz at this level as the general market for art changes over time.
I recommend this highly for anyone who appreciates the best of jazz in an easy to digest, excellently produced and executed musical tour de force.
I hear something new every time I listen to this CD. And best of all, it is a great point of reference for anyone looking to understand what great bass playing is all about.
release of his live online album classic Live At The Village Vanguard, Christian
McBride surprised a few critics and listeners when he presented this ambitious
big band album that not only became a Top Ten hit on the jazz charts, but put
a long-awaited spin on his music career. Although not new to big band music,
McBride handles The Good Feeling with excellent skill, superlative world class
arrangements, vibrant swinging solos and outstanding musicianship in a style
of it's own. Featuring an all-star ensemble including multi-reeds players Steve
Wilson and Ron Blake, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, trombonist Steve Davis as
well as vocalist Melissa Walker, it serves up a combination of original (old and
new) compositions. They include Shake `N' Bake, Brother Mister, an epic take
on Science Fiction, Bluesin' In Alphabet City (he performed it in 1994 when he
was in the Lincoln Center Jazz Festival) and In A Hurry, as well as slick takes
on classic standards like Broadway, When I Fall In Love, I Should Care and A
Taste Of Honey. A Grammy Award winner for Best Large Ensemble album of
2011, The Good Feeling delivers a kind of big band originality which truly rank
as one of the great timeless landmark albums by this wonderful jazz celebrity.
Note: Yes, he did release a highly acclaimed live online album in 2010, which he
recorded at The Village Vanguard and released that same year, and if you want to
download it or hear it, make sure you go to the websites of The Village Vanguard
and WBGO Radio or Jazz At Lincoln Center.Read more ›
Also, the vocalist is terrible. Really terrible. I skipped each vocal number after a minute or so. With so many good to great singers out there, I can't understand why they went for this one. A Taste Of Honey (a terrible tune anyway) is simply unlistenable.

I would say that this CD is aptly named. It does have a "good feeling" about it.Published 19 months ago by W. Bradley
Some fantastic playing and some fun writing to listen to but it seems like Mr. McBride has trouble ending each chart. I was left scratching by head each time the band cut off.Published 20 months ago by J. Cooper
I bought this is June 2012 and was amazed at a) the outstanding performance and b) the truly awful vocalist. Read morePublished 20 months ago by Morethanjazz!

When I listen to a big band of this vintage, I feel very old. A few days ago, I was listening to Buddy's 65 band. The improvement in musicianship over 40 years is stunning. Read morePublished on June 7, 2014 by El Viejo Topo
