Composting: the natural way to recycle
Would you throw money in the trash? That's what happens when you put those bags of leaves on the curb or toss that banana peel. Every year our landfills are packed with up to 40% of organic material that could be turned into compost. Compost can be used to cultivate soil for sensational vegetables, help our lawns fight off disease, or keep down erosion. It even helps the soil retain water. Why waste money when free compost can do all this?
Composting is simple enough: Bacteria, bugs and the environment break down organic material to be used by plants. Compost Tumblers help this process by increasing the oxygen and heat while maintaining moisture. They reduce composting time and keep the compost hidden from view.

Our Compost Wizard Compost Tumbler takes the backbreaking effort out of turning your compost. You won't need to struggle with forks or shovels trying to tear apart a packed, root-bound brick of material. With our compost bin you can make rich, high-quality compost from your garden, yard, and kitchen waste in just weeks. The large capacity compost drum rotates on a stable base providing quick and easy mixing. Just turn it about once a week to keep oxygen, nutrients, microorganisms, and moisture evenly distributed throughout the developing batch. Our composter arrives fully assembled so you won't spend frustrating hours putting it together, and it's low profile (on ground) means you won't need to lift materials high in the air to fill it. With this simple design, you can begin turning your garden and kitchen waste into valuable organic material in just weeks. Molded from recycled polyethylene plastic, it measures 36 inches x 28 inches x 31 inches and holds 12 cubic feet of material. The rotating drum can be removed from its base and rolled to your desired area for filling or dispensing. A 16-inch wide twist-on lid provides easy loading and unloading of small and large material. The vented lid and 72 end vents circulate air within the batch to accelerate composting, and three recessed handles on the side of the drum make turning a manageable task. Compost Wizard Compost Tumbler arrives fully assembled and is backed by a 1 year manufacturing defect warranty. Fully assembled for one minute setup. Made in U.S.A.

In fact, I ordered another one to dedicate to composting pasture run horse manure from a dude giving away aged stuff from off of Craigslist. That one we're going mix the spring yard clean up stuff in as well as food scraps. We have fourteen 8x4x1 raised beds and self made compost is both economical and much more trustworthy/effective than the mystery bags you'll find at most big box home and garden stores.
My advice: fill it only 2/3 full max. Two reasons... 1) too much matter and mass will slow or wreck the decomposition process, and 2) this thing is- no joke- a beast to turn when 2/3 'wet' full. I'm 6'5" and in pretty good shape, but it's a matter of leverage using the inset handles to pull it forward and spin it. Once you get it going, don't stop but be careful- 2/3 full is pushing the limits of the base and cylinder. Get someone to help you spin when in doubt.
Obviously, I'm the impatient type or else I'd only fill it half full as many have reported works best. Hence the need for a second composter. And likely a third one! No more 1 cubic foot bags of $7 non- gmo-fed steer manure compost for this guy!
This bad boy gets a sincere five star recommendation.
My suggestion to the maker would be to provide better hand-holds so you can grip the tumbler better for easier turning in either direction. Adding dirt to your compost makes it a lot harder to turn the drum. But lighter green kitchen waste and brown materials alike leaves and grass are no problem when it comes to turning the drum.
UPDATE: Last weekend my husband and I finally got our first load of black gold out of this composter. It took a long, long time to compost and that was probably mainly because I didn't turn it very often (hard to rotate) and I didn't add water to it regularly. But! It will make some superior compost.
I am thinking of ways to improve this type of composter. I think I can build my own for a lot less money and have it rotate a lot more easily and have a lid attached with hinges and a latch instead of the screw type lid. My husband wants another one but it will be a homemade one this time.
So now I get to decide between trying to return this pig or building a base myself with somewhat larger rollers / wheels - which is how it should have been built to begin with. My initial reaction was "Chinese Junk" but I see it is made in the USA. Proudly. A slight design change and $4 toward larger rollers and this would be golden. Grrrr.
Decided to keep the composter and try it out rather than send it back. I filled it to the top (which has since compacted down to about 1/3 the interior volume) and I was still able to turn the barrel although it of course still rubs and the process is somewhat difficult. But at least it is functional. I increase the rating to 3 stars.
To those who have difficulty getting the lid on - try turning it anti-clockwise until the threads 'line up' and then tighten as normal.
