Good Luck Charm was well written, the writing flowed well and I easily got sucked into the story and wanted to see what would happen next to Kerri and Connor. It was a lot of fun to read. Kerri has the worst luck ever and has an overabundance of good luck charms to try and counter her bad luck. It might sound like it would be too much, but I actually really liked how the author handled the luck theme. It added some quirkiness to Kerri's character and caused some fun situations. Although I did feel bad for Kerri with how much bad luck she had.
I liked both Kerry and Connor. The book is written in dual point of view and that helped to get a feel for them. After her father lands in the hospital due to an accident, Kerri convinces Connor to be her good luck charm. And that's how their friendship starts. This book is a bit of a friends to lovers romance. For the longest time they don't realize they have feelings for the other, but that moment when they do realize that was great.
Kerri is a great female main character who speaks her mind and isn't afraid to say what she thinks. And while others might not believe her bad luck, she does. This book lightly touches upon the power of superstitions and how this influences her character. I liked how she was a bit quirky and very forward, but also nice. And Connor was such a nice guy, he was so sweet and helpful to Kerri. And he knew how to cook, that was a nice touch as well.
I liked seeing these two become friends and how they interacted. And how they have some slightly awkward conversations at first and how they talk through them was fun to read. There is a bit of drama toward the end that I didn't care too much for, but it was necessary for the plot and to resolve everything. And I was happy with how things ended. I wouldn't have minded a few scenes to actually see them as a couple, as the book ends right when the become a couple.
There are some side characters, but the main focus is on Kerri and Connor. Kerri's family also plays apart and they were fun to read about. Then there is her friends Mia, who is the main character of the first book. But even tough I haven't read the first book I never felt like I was missing anything. And Jake the character of the next book gets introduced, but I found him kinda annoying. I wonder if he changes in the next book. Mallory was a bit of the typical popular girl, although at least she wasn't too mean. And she did have an important role to show that looks aren't everything.
To summarize: This was the first book I picked up by this author and it certainly won't be the last. Good Luck Charm is a fun and cute romantic read centered around the topic of luck. Kerri has a lot of bad luck and asks Connor to be her good luck charm after he helps her out. These two were so fun to read about, I liked seeing how they become friends and then slowly more. And I liked how both are great characters, Kerri is quirky and fun and Connor is really nice and sweet. The writing flowed smoothly and I had a lot of fun reading this book.
This was a great story of friendship and love, love of friends, family and first love. We all do crazy things and we all wonder about life, Kerri has her reasons for feeling unlucky and as you read her story you will understand why she needs them and you will fall in love with the red headed girl with some great talents and some funny ways of thinking.
Kellie McAllen is a great writer, I have fallen in love with this series and can’t wait to read the next book in the series April Fools’ Joke, I think it may also be time to sink my teeth into one of Kellies other series, the choice is which one to start with, if you get to the bottom of this and have a recommendation please let me know.
Kerri has always thought that Bad luck ruins her life causing her to do anything to prevent it form getting worse. The night of her big game she was having difficulty until she saw her father arrive in his lucky shirt thus saving the day. While in reality it was the new boy in school, Connor, who was wearing a shirt his mother had bought for him at the Goodwill. It just happened to really be her father's shirt that he had lost. The coincidence is astounding, but Kerri's reaction to get the shirt back was even more so. That is just the beginning of a friendship that began as Connor becomes her lucky charm keeping Kerri from her bad luck. That may sound crazy, but add to that Connor's crush on another girl while their friendship takes off becomes even trickier.
This was a trip back to high school with all the difficulties of popularity, friendship, and love interests mixed together in one incredibly funny story. I loved how Kerri's brothers ate them out of house and home and one was even willing to date Connor just to eat his food. Their overbearingly protective attitudes towards anyone interested in her, except for Connor, was hysterical. Connor's willingness to go alone with Kerri's nutty ideas when he was mooning over someone else made his real feelings obvious to every expect himself and Kerri thus upping the humor for everyone.
