Oh, it's a funny thing when paths collide. Or even when fate steps in.
Meredith and her teenage son were left with a mess after her late husband left them with tons of debt and broken hearts. The only thing she still had was a getaway cabin and the start of a new life.
Too bad that cabin already had a new owner...Jed Banks. He wasn't going to let someone take away the dreams he had for that land, and that cabin. Even if he couldn't get this certain woman off his mind.
"I'm sorry we didn't meet under better circumstances."
"I don't know whether you heard or not, but I'm building a camp. That's what I wanted the land for. I'm not some rich jerk looking to take your cabin."
"I'm not some spoiled rich woman wanting to keep a vacation home."
"I never thought you were."
This was a great story about learning to live again and forgiveness. A story of a mother just trying to do everything she can for her son. And a man doing all he can for struggling youth.
Really good book for all!!
"Will you have lunch with me later?"
"I think I can fit you in."
"And how about dinner?"
"That's a strong possibility."
"I'm all about possibilities."
Good Neighbors is a simple, quick read about a woman and her son who are facing some life challenges. Things seem to spiral from one bad situation to another.
Adults can find themselves in stressful situations - divorce, money troubles, addictions, deaths, etc. and it will affect the children. This story is a good example of that. Meredith is down on her luck, making bad choices, and her son Leo is caught in the crossfire.
I wish Meredith had been a stronger character. I guess I anticipated a book in honor of such a great woman as Sally Spencer would have a strong female lead - an inspirational and likeable lead. I didn't find Meredith to be either. I also didn't find Jed to be very inspiring.
There are also numerous spacing typos in this Kindle freebie. I hope Amazon and Harlequin fix this.
So my rating falls more to a 3.5 rounded up to 4 for rating purposes. I feel the author was trying to portray a troubled home and the effects on the kids - for that, well done.
