This story takes you to dark places and gives you a glimpse of what it must feel like to struggle with mental illness. It’s touches on how it affects not only yourself but those around you that want to help and are devastated when you fail. It also makes you feel like no matter how bad it gets there is hope and help out there.
I was left emotionally spent after this short story and it leaves you with a cliffhanger of sorts. I am definitely looking forward to reading more to this story. Wonderful job Jennifer!!!
As the story unfolds, the horrors in Olivia's past are exposed until the truth according to her mother is revealed. Due to memories that have been suppressed for many years these revelations push Olivia onto a balance board of emotions trying "marry" her memories with her mother's (and father's) revelations and lead her into a downward spiral.
Jennifer Sivec's writing is powerful and she allows you to experience the deep emotions this book explores.
She ends Part One on the edge of a cliff. I am hoping that Part Two allows us to discover what the real truth is.
Although the story was entertaining, I did have some difficulty connecting to the characters. The subject matter was serious and emotional enough that I expected to feel much more than I did. I'm not sure why this was the case. Maybe I was having an off day. I would not discourage anyone from giving it a read.
