This book combines magical themes with Fantasy and is a good read people will find engaging. I liked the feel of this book and the way the author brought readers into a different time and a different world.
The story creates a magical kingdom called Niarg and populates it with fascinating characters, wizards and witches,
elves, dragons, unicorns and magical birds. The intrigue comes with a plague that tragically sweeps across the
country while heroic efforts are made to stop it. At the center of the effort to find the cure is the wizard
Razzmorten. He is the father of Minuet (the good sister) and Ugleeuh (the bad sister). Demonica (Ugleeah's mother)
is a strong character that I felt deserved more attention. A magical raven named Ocker is a unique and
unforgettable character and quite the businessman.
I have a fondness for good descriptive prose and enjoyed many examples scattered throughout the story. One example
from early in the story: "Razzmorten appeared in the moonlight amongst the tall balsaltic rocks of Demonica's
keep...listening to the pounding surf far below as he paused here and there to feel for the presence of magical
wards and protections set by Demonica."
GOOD SISTER BAD SISTER is a great introduction to the epic HEART OF THE STAFF series. My wife and I read the book
aloud and thoroughly enjoyed it. We recommend it to lovers of fantasy, and we have already purchased or downloaded
free, the other books in the series.
