Editorial Reviews

This one was different, because--in MY eyes--there was nothing innocent, or easily "overlooked" or excused, about their relationship. Their attraction was primal. To me, it was a greedy, needy, consequences-be-damned love story. Or lust story. ~ Maryse (

This book is one of the best books that I've ever read. Ever. In fact, I'm even going to go out on a limb here and say that it's also the best book that I've ever read involving a student/teacher relationship. Lord knows there are plenty of books revolving around that theme out there, but none could be described as pure perfection like this one can. ~ Alyssa (My Secret Romance)

Mark's character was so well done. He was gentle, caring and patient with Cadence. I was nervous about liking him at first because I didn't know his true intentions but watching as their love progressed throughout the story he really proved himself. ~ Hootie (Globug and Hootie need a Book)

It was hot, forbidden and thrilling. But I love taboo books because you just never know what you're "supposed" to feel. Y'know? Should you root for them? I really wanted to. Heck, I did. Did it feel wrong? Sure. Absolutely. Did it stop me from feeling that way? Nope. It was like my brain and my heart were at war and it was a constant battle to see which one could come out on top. ~ Aestas (Aestas Book Blog)

This is what makes a great book - the author takes such a complex situation and really makes you think - is it wrong to follow your feelings and fall in love?  Is this taboo or just a case of fate?  Yes I was uncomfortable in some situations and even at times wanted to cover my eyes but I couldn't stop reading! ~ Christine (Shh Moms Reading)

About the Author

S. Walden used to teach English before making the best decision of her life by becoming a full-time writer. She lives in Georgia with her very supportive husband who prefers physics textbooks over fiction and has a difficult time understanding why her characters must have personality flaws. So, here's my disclaimer:

I do not approve of much older men with younger women. I just don't; and I think that 28 can be defined as much older when you're talking about a girl who is 17/18. When a 50 year old and a 40 year old are together, 10 years doesn't mean quite so much, and I say more power to them; but 10 years to a teenager is a lot of rings on a tree. Those years are vital years in terms of development. Honestly, older men with much younger women tick me off. I think it's wrong to get your hooks into a girl who doesn't really know who she is yet, so you can make her be who you want her to be (and the same goes for much older women with younger men).

Now that I've made my position clear, I'll step down from my soapbox and continue with my review.

S. Walden is good. This book is good. I probably wasn't halfway through this book before I tossed my moral compass into the Chesapeake. I'm not proud of that but it's true. I was reading this book, relaxing on the boat, and I thought, "Screw it! I'm going with you, Ms. Walden!" And splash! My morals sank to the bottom. I think your morals will take a flying leap, too; so, if you think you want to fight this older man/hot-for-teacher thing, then you better get a death grip on them!

We open this book to Cadence, a 17 year old stuck in juvie. She's schlepping trash on the side of the highway and--whammo!--she runs into Mr. Hottie, or as she calls him, "Midnight in a Perfect World (you'll understand when you read it)." She's feeling it, seems like he might be as well, until they're rudely interrupted and it's back to work. Then, we flash forward to Cadence's first day back at school, or, if you will, her return to Hell. She walks into her very first class, and who does she see?

I apologise in advance for bad language but this book was F'IN incredible. Completely. Totally. Absolutely out of this world. I loved it.

Cadence has spent the last year of her life in what she considers hell. She's been in juvie for committing one of the stupidest (I admit though, I giggled when I finally found out) crimes. As part of her punishment, whilst in juvie she has to pick up trash on the side of the highway. Humiliation at it's highest form. And it's about to all get worse when she bumps in to one of the hottest people she's ever laid eyes on, 'Midnight in a Perfect World'. Who is this guy that looked at her like she meant the entire world to him, like if he didn't have her he would rather die? She was about to find out..

"He's cute. Very cute. And very smart. And very manly... And very off-limits."
"Those are always the best love stories,"
"Which ones?"
"The dangerous ones."

A couple of days later, whilst on her first day back at school, she finds out exactly who this guy is. Her brand new, very hot, very cute, calculus teacher. Don't get me wrong, I know it was wrong and bad and completely inappropriate but I could not help rooting for these two. The attraction between them was instant and I was pleased that nothing happened for a long time. I can't say that they tried very hard to deny their feelings because well, really, they didn't but Cadence at least really struggled to come to terms with what she was feeling. A 17 year old crushing on her teacher? A Christian 17 year old who has spent her life going to church and believing in rights and wrongs and that s3x before marriage is all kinds of wrong. I actually felt a little sad for her for having all of these struggles.

Wow. Ok... so....

I must begin by expressing my undying devotion to S. Walden. She's officially one of my all time favorite authors EVER. And I can say that without a doubt, even though this is only the second book I've ever read by this author. Slap her name on the phone book and I'll read it word for word. Some authors just nail it... And she knocked it out of the park with this book.

This book was amazing. Like forgo sleep, abandon all parental responsibility, don't eat, sleep, bathe until the last page kind of GOOD. Amazing.

I love a good story about forbidden taboo relationships. Teacher student relationships are right up my ally. And this one did not disappoint. This book was perfectly written, perfectly told, perfectly perfect perfect in every way.

I adored these characters. Mark had me at Converse and skinny jeans. Cadence was awesome. The dialogue was humorous and smart. I mean SMART. The characters and this story line were so well developed, so layered... the Christianity component to the plot added both complexity to Cadence's personality and an underlying theme of what we think is right and wrong to the whole plot.

I could go on and on about how much I loved this book. The dynamic between cadence and her family, cadence and Avery, cadence and Mark, Mark and his class... not a single criticism can I find. It was all so pitch perfect, spot on.

I laughed. I felt fear for where this could all go. And where it went, I never expected. I loved the build between cadence and Mark. I loved the twists and turns, the heartbreak and the romance and the heat... ooooooh, the heat!

Basically you must read this. And do it now. I want more. I want it yesterday. And I never want it to stop.
