This is a sex manual of a special sort. It starts with the basics ("Sexual Anatomy 101," "Communications," "Masturbation") aimed at teaching the reader to receive and give pleasure. Other chapters ("Lubrication," "Creative Touching," "Oral Sex," "All About Vibrators," "Fantasies") describe how to enhance the sexual experience. You'll get answers to questions you never knew to ask: how to keep dildos clean, what is "packing," what is the appeal of S/M, for example. A substantial chapter on "Safer Sex" offers techniques both expected (use a condom) and unexpected (put it on him using your mouth). Quotations from real people about their sexual pleasures lend interest and eroticism. Explicit line drawings show sex between male-female, male-male, and female-female partners, as well as solitary acts with vibrators. "In our fantasies, we dream of this book with its cracked spine and well-thumbed pages lying on your nightstand next to your vibrator, lube, massage oil and condoms," write the authors. For education and entertainment, this book is a winner. --Joan Price --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

What I particularly love it is that it makes so few assumptions about whether you're bisexual, gay, lesbian or straight.
An extremely wide range of activities for consenting adults is presented in a way that makes you happy to try them or go "nah, not for me" without feeling bad either way.
That's not to say the book couldn't be better. The line drawings are a bit twee, and the resources section is almost entirely US-based. I've also seen a comment complaining that the authors seem to think the question is not "should I have a sex toy?" but "how many sex toys should I have?". Well, yes, but they do (did?) work at a particularly lovely sex toy shop.
Anne Semans and Cathy Winks posses a great down to earth syle of writing that makes this book easy to read and digest and yet it covers all the important subjects and a lot more besides. From basic anatomy to sex toys and everything inbetween this book was a great read. I love the qoutes from real people that are included within the book and this to some extent is what sets the good vibrations guide to sex apart from other sex manuals.
With good clear illustrations and a writing style that makes this book easy to read, I would say if you only buy one sex manual in your life time make sure it's this one!
