Minor characters: Pavel and Juan.
Men in her world were selfish taking what they want uncaring of who they hurt. In Hunts Point they took from those who won't be missed or cared about. "We are all in the same kind of hell here, only surrounded by different monsters." Quote from story.
I cannot judge the darkness that surrounds this story as I was well informed of its punishable depths. I am not shocked by the abuse on these human beings. This story enlightened me to a world of monsters that I would have ignored or never considered.
The streets of Hunts Point were filled with diseased human beings. I learned a great deal about the world of disease minded people who have cravings for unworldly desires.
“Mateo is screwing unconscious people, Juan is missing an organ, where the heck am I?” You are housed in a distorted empire of dysfunctional monsters that were cast aside by normal society.
These characters have unusual cravings, some are monsters, some are dysfunctional, and some are disease minded. Yet they all survive in a dark twisted world. It is not until love comes into play that the true hardship begins. Love complicates a diseased minded monster giving hope. Love cannot survive in a diseased body.
The story is told from alternating POV's from Svetlana, Caesar, and Mateo.
While these characters shared alternating POV's the story overlapped from one characters perspective into the others going back to the last scene showing the outcome from the others thought process. This is book one in a series so it ends with a cliffhanger ending.
At times I did not think I could go on yet I took one for the team and plowed through it like a thrill seeker on a race track going mach 1. I hated every character in this piece and yet I cannot explain how much I loved them all, so beautifully broken, every. single. one. of. them. I adored Caesar, just fell for the devilish, angelic hero... HARD. I am devastated, utterly shattered, completely spent and just f*ing wrecked.
Thank you so much for making me feel again Ashleigh Giannoccaro!
There is a detached air about this novel, as if you are seeing it through a softened lens. What you’ll read may appall you, it may horrify you, and if you have lived a sheltered existence it will break your heart. The authors have done a brilliant job at peeling back the veneer of civilisation to expose the festering darkness living in tandem with yours, the world of crime, where you are either a predator or a victim. There is no middle ground.
Svetlana lives a half life, one where pain and humiliation are her daily bread. The agony and despair she goes through will make you flinch, and then when Dark and Dangerous steps into her life you will rejoice. At last the dark horseman rises, the Goodbye Man, the angel of death. Svetlana is stunted emotionally, trauma will do that to you. She’s a woman-child who knows all about the seedy underbelly of society and how to be ready for penetration, it’s how she earns her ‘daddy’ his money, but she is emotionally naive, she is child-like because she was never allowed to mature, she is locked in her cycle, her neurons are wired that way now.
This story is engaging, it makes you curious, you need to know what happens next. The more you read about Svetlana the more you want to know her story, you need to know if she’ll get out alive, you need to know she’ll be safe and know love.
What is love? Is it obsession? Is it a chemical imbalance? Is it even healthy? In this story it isn’t healthy, it is an imbalance, it is extreme and demanding and debilitating.
I enjoyed it, I needed to finish it, and then it ended on a cliffhanger. So be warned, you will journey through the annals of Hades, you will see the fire, smell the fire, and know its master, and in the end you’ll look down at the leather straps tying you to this book and chew through them. Very dark, very noir, and realistic in the extreme. Romance comes in all shapes and sizes, damaged men rule the world, don’t open this book unless you are willing to see inside their hearts, minds, and souls.
