Caveat: I needed to update the software at least through 3 cycles (from version 37 [i think] to current version of 57)
Another Caveat: from the pictures it looks like there is a USB-C jack for the power. There isn't. It may have been built that way in another version of the Chromebook Pixel but not the one I got. Kind of annoying (because USB-C is amaze-balls) but minor annoyance right now. If I do want to connect this to an HDMI screen I could use the thunderbolt that this has.
Surprise: I'm surprised that this is touchscreen, pretty cool, but I'm not used to it yet and haven't really used it.
Another surprise: I could actually get a sim card and use this while traveling without Wifi. Doubt I'll do that, but it is an option, it seems.
The display on this computer is also amazing and the screen is also a touch screen. The battery life I find sufficient lasting up to 3 - 4 hours of use. The power supply has a very long cord so that when you need to charge the device you can still actually continue to use it because of the length of the cord.
This device back in the day was going for $1,299 when it came out in 2013. It received great reviews when it first came out and all the negativity was about the price. Now that this device is only several hundred dollars it is a bargain. Disregard any of the ridiculous negative reviews on this machine. This machine is awesome! So if you are you looking for a device to quickly surf the net then get this device. With the Intel i5 processor you will not find a faster machine.
A lot of my music listening involves Spotify through a USB DAC into my system. I'm a Spotify premium subscriber and receive the higher quality stream on all of my devices - windows, mac, linux mint, android. I was not aware that the higher quality audio stream was not available on this, or any other, chromebook. I also have an unanticipated problem with one of my USB DAC's. My HRT Musicstreamer works just fine with this device. However, my Audioquest Firefly Black (v. 1.5) is unuseable with this device. The Firefly is recognized by the chromebook and puts out sound but it is terribly distorted. On the positive side, the internal speakers in this device are way above average.
i did all of the research before i actually pulled the trigger on this, and I am so happy that I did.
