Yes, it is made out of cardboard. That is what makes the kit very affordable. It is thick cardboard and if careful, it won’t rip. I’ve put two of these together already, and they work great.
I have only done the voice AI project so far, but there are additional and useful projects to operate multiple 9g servo motors (up to six) and 4 DC motors for instance. Those instructions look easy too follow as well.
The additional items list is wrong in the description here. This is what you will need to get this working:
1. Raspberry Pi 3 board with a power cable for it
2. At least a 16gb micro SD card with a reader to transfer files. I tried an 8gb, and it did not work; however, the SD card may have been bad/too old.
3. USB mouse and keyboard
4. Google account
5. WiFi
6. Double sided tape
7. A small 00 Phillips Screedriver (similar to eyeglass kits
8. Some free downloaded software and an image mentioned in the instructions.
9. A computer to download these files and transfer them to the SD card.
Since you will already have a Raspberry pie for this project, I recoomend trying other things with it. There is a lot you can do with them.
Excellent purchase. Will definitely be purchasing more. A rather impressive device once built, and kids love asking it questions. Google AI seems to work better than the Amazon Echo AI. It seems to do pretty well understanding a 4 year old.
I have not tried to use this with a B+, just the Zero w's and no issues yet. Just make sure you're following the setup directions for the proper version.
Don't just stop with building the kit, explore further, that's the point of these things.
The only part of the directions that got confusing was setting up the Google credentials for Google Voice. There are so many coices that it's easy to get lost without following the directions line-by-line with each step. I'm looking forward to setting up voice control for other devices attached to the Pi.
That's because the original Voice Kit image (Raspbian) doesn't work properly and the Voice Kit Hat looks like is dead. I had to instal the Voice AIY and voice drivers on a fresh Raspbian software from 3 different GitHub projects.

Does not take long to put together and works ok once you have a google voice account. Gave me a good insight into voice etc
There is no raspberry pi 3, no power supply, microSD card or screwdriver.
WTH guys? Can someone contact me please?
