Top customer reviews
Video quality is above average. If go-pro is a 10/10, this is about an 8.5/10. You aren't going to be creating big time studio productions with this but the quality is enough for people watching your videos to stick around.
Built in audio quality is meh. It sounds muffled, although you can hear what people are saying if they are close enough. Thankfully this supports external mics via the mini usb port.
Battery life is about an hour but replacement batteries are easy to come by and cheap. I think its $20 for a charger and 2 batteries on another website.
Now the main flaw is that when you use a stereo mic, the recording will stop intermittently based on the audio coming through. Apparently the camera interprets the sound coming through one of the channels as PWM signal that tells the camera to stop recording. This only occurs at speeds above 60mph or if I happen to speak certain syllables.
Its hard to isolate, but I found a thread on RC copter forums that discussed this in great length. What you can do to remedy it is to buy the firefly specific microphone. Its like 7 dollars on a chinese version of amazon. (Initials are GB). That website is also where I bought this camera which was about 50 dollars cheaper even with expedited shipping and arrived in less than a week.
I am in process of trying to get in touch with customer service to remedy the issue with stereo mics. Hawkeye is really good about firmware updates. I think they've released around 20+ updates since they released this. Not sure if you can say the same about the other competitors.
One last thing I need to mention is that you have to use the recommended SD cards in this camera. If you don't, then the camera will split files into different parts because the write speed of the sd card can't write the video files fast enough. I switched from a Sandisk ultra to a Sandisk extreme, and the issue of splitting files went away. Another one would be the lexar 1800x.
