As a child, I become a huge fan of the Goosebumps series. I was constantly reading one book after another of these books. To me, they were an escape from reality with just the right combination of comedy and horror to appease my 8 year old self. I grew up also watching the goosebumps show and spinoff show so when I heard there was a movie my almost 30 year old self changed back into my 8 year old self and I become excited. I was weary that the movie wouldn't do justice to my beloved book series but it was perfect. It had all the more predominant characters from the series and although the little things didn't scare me as they did 22 years ago, I did find myself caught up in the twist and turns of the plot. I found myself laughing throughout the movie too. The characters seemed to bring out the best side of all the actors, much like they'd been made for each other. I was so grateful that I could bring my childhood love to the present to share with my kids. My boys aren't book lovers as I was once was but they become hypnotized by the storyline of the movie and watched quietly with the occasional laugh, jump or gasp. This movie was perfect.
This movie, Goosebumps, has gotten the original book series with the same name more popularity than it has ever had in the 90's. Jack Black does a wonderful job being R.L. Stine, and for a time, I actually thought he was the real author, since I didn't really know the series too well. Now, I've read over 90 Goosebumps books and the movie does a good job at the characters/ monsters. In some of the interviews about the movie, R.L. Stine says that every monster from all of the books are in this film, but there are only about 10 different monsters, and there are over 100 books. The next film, Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween, is said to be released in September this year (2018). Overall, this movie is great for all of its humor and action, along with seeing Slappy the Dummy being the ultimate villain, and releasing the other monsters into the real world.
I love Goosebumps and have since I was a kid. I have every Goosebumps episode ever released to DVD/Blu Ray. This is basically a remake of some of the originals. I gave it two thumbs up👍👍. I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone who is a drama/scifi fan. Audio and Video is what is expected from a blu ray.
A great family film with cute twists, action, and a happy ending. My husband and I are too old for the Goosebumps books and our children too young, yet we all thoroughly enjoyed the film. (We dont have super young children and we're not ancient. What I mean is the "Goosebumps" generation is between us and our children.) Jack Black is so irritating to me, yet he wasn't the main focus of the film so I only had to suffer for short durations of time. I laughed out loud a number of times, and even got a little teary for one scene. Good stuff. Remember, this is a kid's film. Some stuff just won't add up. There are holes in the plot. Get over it. Just grab your kids (or not), a bowl of popcorn, or organic amaryth, whatever tickles your fancy and enjoy.

This review is solely on the DVD purchase (not the movie). Ordered the regular DVD based on the advertisement that the regular DVD included the digital copy of the movie as well (I even read the statement on the advertisment multiple times prior to purchase) to make sure I was reading it correctly. The reg. DVD did not include a digital copy. If I would have known that, I would have spent the extra few dollars to buy the blu ray DVD to ensure we received a digital copy so it could be viewed on our tablets. Not happy but not worth a return.
I bought this movie for the Atmos soundtrack as there are such limited movies in Dolby Atmos. Funnily, my friends and I actually ended up quite enjoying this movie. It reminded us of the good old movies of yore, like Gremlins. I have to say that the Atmos sound track in this movie is among the best I have heard so far, with excellent use of the ceiling speakers (when monsters move above the protagonists, the sound pans across the ceiling speakers) - so much fun. Definitely a fun movie with great object based sound and leaves the door open for a sequel.
Well, I saw the previews for this on an older DVD that I purchased and the kids and I thought it looked good enough to try out. So, I bought it.... and I am SOOOOOO glad I did! I used to be back and forth on whether or not I liked a particular Jack Black movie, but he has quite a few out there now that I like. When I saw who he was playing in the movie, I just had to get it. Not only is the humor great in it, but I love that they put (little spoiler here if you haven't seen it!) R.L. Stine in it as the drama teacher Mr. Black! Hilarious!!
Obviously the story is not realistic, but that made it much easier for me to tell the kids about it. The ending was a LITTLE scary since it kind of leaves it open, but the kids got over it. I just turn it off before that part if I remember. We've watched it at least 10 times. Entertaining and funny. Great combo for a family type movie!

Jack Black is R.L. Stine the writher of the "Goosebumps" books. He and his daughter have taken refuge in a small town when a new neighbor movies in next door and Zach and his daughter have a connection. Though I do believe that jack did a very good job, in my opinion the 3 kids were that actual stars, along with the invisible kid, the werewolf, the dummy, the giant praying mantis, the blob, well you get it. The 3 kids were superb and Zach and his friends are such naturals. I would not recommend this for kids under 5 or so, some things seem pretty scary but for all and everyone......Yay, go ahead and have a good time.
I enjoyed this one, a fun, fast blast of chaos and lunacy that flies by in a blur of action and gags.
Based on the insanely well selling books by RL Stine, the plot twists things a little. The set up is pretty standard - a young lad and his single mother rock up in a new town and meet their new, mysterious next door neighbours who happen to be RL Stine himself (played with typical gusto by Jack Black) and his daughter. Then all hell literally breaks loose as Stines literary creations come to life (!?).
The Abominable Snowman, a werewolf, a freaky ventriloquists dummy, murderous gnomes and much more are on the menu as a load of old school horror tropes are chucked in the blender to create something original and imaginative. Like a young adult version of The Cabin in the Woods (kind of).
And it's funny. Sometimes it perhaps tries a little too hard with almost every character speaking in punchlines but for the most part it keeps the chuckles flowing amidst the odd big laugh. The cast are all game for it with Ryan Lee as "Champ" nicking many of the best lines and stealing scenes with them. There's a little dash of romance and the occasional life lesson (of course) and it all adds up to an entertaining slice of absurdity.
Love this film and in 3D it is even better. It helped when i saw how cheap it was on amazon.I had heard of Goosebumps before but had never seen any on tv or read the books so when i saw this film i was amazed how good it was.Now it's one of my fave films. The special effects are great and so are the actors.Just a pure entertaining film. One of Jack Black's better films.Great for all the family to watch.

One of the best films I've seen. Been following Goosebumps for about 9-10 years. Was refusing to watch it at first because didn't think it would be the same and didn't agree with the casting of older teens. I was so wrong. It's very very funny, energetic and surprising as well as keeping the same mild childrens horror of the Goosebumps Series. It wouldn't have worked with younger teenagers as the 3 kids. I feel they could have referenced the first ever book though by adding one or more of: Ray Thurston, Mr Dawes, Karen Somerset and the Dead House.
I loved this film, I watched it at the cinema first so obviously when it was released on DVD I bought it. A brilliant sci-fi thrilling action packed adventure of a film starring the brilliant Jack Black and many other faces. This film is based on some of the characters written from the goosebumps series of books. They are cleverly joined into this very special little adventure of a film! Just buy it! @:0)

I watched this with my 14 year old grandson and it kept us both glued. I don't think many younger children would find it scarey, it is more on the surprised side of scarey. Very good film for all the family.

Was looking for a DVD to play over Christmas whilst the grandchildren were round and wanted something that the adults would enjoy as well. This film was enjoyed by all age groups so a good film for all the family even if rated for older children
