Live in Reno is a solid overview of an admirable career, even if this Gordon Lightfoot is not what he once was. The singer-songwriter, 61 when the 90-minute show was recorded in April 2000, looks gaunt, and his distinctive voice is on the frail side. Still, he has accumulated a remarkable catalog of material over the course of some four decades, and nearly all of the biggies are among the 22 songs performed here by Lightfoot and his four-piece band, from the early classics popularized by other artists ("For Lovin' Me," "Early Morning Rain") to his own best-known hits ("If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown," "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"). There are no theatrics or flashy production values, just a group of middle-aged men playing their music--and playing it well. So even if it's not especially exciting, fans will be satisfied. --Sam Graham

I can't give this 4.5 stars, so will give it 5 because I am biased as a fan of Gordon Lightfoot. Anyways, I subtract 0.5 stars due to this only being on DVD, as a Blu-Ray treatment would improve it drastically, but overall the audio/video quality is good. As far as his appearance and voice, I was a bit disappointed at first viewing because his voice was different, but that may be due to his stomach illness and tracheotomy that he went through in 2002. Also, singer's voices do change as they get older, and usually not for the better, so if you are hoping to hear that distinct baritone singing voice, this video may take a viewing or two to get used to the changes in his vocals. All complaints aside, any fan of Gordon Lightfoot should pick this one up. He plays all his well-known songs, along with some hidden treasures. I personally like Old Dan's Records, a song I never knew existed until watching this video.
NOTE: ALL THE SONGS SOUND JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL STUDIO VERSIONS, EVEN THOUGH, THIS IS A LIVE CONCERT. (I don't like concerts where the live versions, don't sound anything like the original, studio version, except for jam bands who improvise their music.) Anyway, the songs you get here, are going to sound just like the ones you heard on the radio, through the years, and I like that for a concert like this.
The line-up consists of the following:
Rick Haynes - Bass
Barry Keane - Drums & Percussion
Terry Clements - Lead Guitar (Electric)
Mike Heffernan - Keyboards

The song set is as follows:
2.I'll Prove My Love
3.The House You Live In
8.Medley - For Lovin' Me/Did She Mention My Name
9.The Wreak of the Edmund Fitzgerald (Simply "Awesome"!)
10.Waiting for You
12.Rainy Day People
14.If You Could Read My Mine

17.Early Morning Rain
18.Baby Step Back
