Once assembled it is strong, stout, and does not wabble.
The assembly instructions are very good, however they fail to clearly state that the peg board goes behind the steel supports, and not in front of them. Maybe, the instruction writer thought that was obvious, (like "place pointed end of nail on wood and hit with hammer".)
It comes packed well, but not well enough as a corner of the wood top was dinged during shipping.
All the wood needs to be sealed if you are using it in a damp environment.
The pegboard needed bolts that were not included yet indicated in the instructions.
To secure the main work surface you have to get under the tabletop and mark the screwholes with a pencil, pre-drill, and screw with your own screws! Why not just pre-drill and give the customer some screws. Would that kill them?
A company like Ikea would never allow an incomplete product like this out the door. It betrays a certain indifference to the customer.
1) Like many others, I received boards which had been damaged. Both the main work surface and peg board had damaged corners. The damage was not severe enough for me to really care (I had anticipated this based on other reviews and had included that in the cost/benefit analysis before purchasing), but it is still a little disappointing. So, if you think you might buy this, expect damaged goods.
2) A few pieces were bent out of shape, so I had to fix them. The metal is not really all that substantial, so doing this is not a difficult task (and I was able to do this with a rubber mallet and my bare hands). Again, though, it is disappointing to have to repair a new item.
3) The gliders for the drawer simply would not fit. Perhaps I was too weak or was handling them to delicately, but whatever the reason, it was not possible for me to get them mounted as shipped. To remedy this, I took a mini pry bar and bent the clips slightly so that they would slide into the mounts.
4) I anticipate that I will need to replace the work surface. This isn't really a problem with the product, as I knew what the surface was made of before I purchased it, but for the sake of completeness, I wanted to mention it. I think, though, it will take a while to damage the surface significantly, so by then I won't mind spending a little more to get a maple replacement top.
That being said, once I got everything together, I was pleased with the workbench and don't suspect that I will have any issues with it. So, make sure you plan on having to tweak some things and take that into consideration before purchasing, but the price seems to be reasonable and if you are afraid of having to do some slight modifications, then you probably don't really need a workbench!
The particle board work surface, shelves, and pegboard, that's another story. The particle board is pretty soft and may not last long. In fact, the corners of my pieces were damaged in shipment with no damage to the actual box -- they just aren't packaged right, and the metal frame pieces chewed up the edges during shipment. The seller told me the manufacturer would send me new particle board pieces, but after waiting a week, they did not arrive, so I went ahead and used the slightly damaged ones.
Also, the big work surface and the bottom shelf did not include mounting hardware in my package. They are basically resting on the metal frame. If you are thinking of mounting a vice or something to this bench, you will have to use your own hardware to bolt down the main shelf. There are pre-drilled holes in the metal frame for this, just no bolts, nuts, or washers in my package for them.
I am satisfied with this purchase -- I'd buy it again -- but really the particle board is going to have to be replaced eventually. I guess I won't mind cutting some better material to the right size when it has worn out.

I reinforced the bottom shelf to support more weight but other than that, it is a good unit.Published 22 months ago by Lou Ratsos

I can't say that I've had any complaints about this bench at all. My box arrived a bit beat up and there was a bolt or two missing. I expected this to be a headache. Read morePublished on May 20, 2013 by Brian S
