I'd also like to know more about the reasons for not using theophoric names in discerning the correct pronunciation of YHVH. I think they offer greater value than reference to common words (vs. proper names) with similar letters. Sadly, but of little surprise, the rabbis developed this "extra fence" approach of not uttering God's Name (vs. not misusing it), thereby violating the commandment they sought to protect by rendering it to nothing (or vain), to the point now where even top scholars debate over its proper pronunciation. For what its worth, I do not believe Christian scholars have done any better over these last 2000 years.
The most common ways of pronunciation I have found from scholars who have studied the subject are: Yahweh, Yahuwah, and Yahovah. Admittedly, I do not have the same grasp of Hebrew grammar that you do Mr. Blizzard, but there seems to be value in relying upon the pronunciation of proper names which we know how to pronounce that contain YH, especially that of YHVDH (Yahudah), over use of common words, such as HVH. Thanks again for your efforts here.
