This is not a book to read in one sitting but rather a book to meditate with. It's the kind of book to have near you, next to your bed, in your bag, something to have at hand in the waiting room. It gives you spiritual peace and allowes you to see your life in a different perspective.

Cardinal Martini was a top level Jesuit Scholar. He was also a very popular Archbishop (Milan, Italy).
This book is short, easily understandable and very profound.
It should be read slowly, respectfully... It will make you reflect on your own life, as well, as he meditates on the events of Mary's life.
I have read a lot about Mary, and thought a lot about her and loved her for more than 15 years. This book has material worthy of being highlighted in every single page. It reveals the close intimacy that the Cardinal had with Our Blessed Mother, and from which he generously shares with us, for our sake.
Had to borrow, a lot, I suspect, from the Spiritual Exercises that Cardinal Martini had to do, as a Jesuit. Indirectly, he encourages us to do our own "exercises", to reflect on the Gospel parts that talk about Mary, and to do so Respectfully, asking her to guide us into that journey, so that we can understand her better, and get to know her better, SO that we can learn from her about how to better follow Jesus.
To me, and in terms of modern writings about Mary, only the writings of John Paul II can be put at the same level of this little precious book.

I'm reading it over and over again. The author seems very trustworthy, so this little books functions well as a commentary to the NT passages about Mary. The book is enjoyable, deep and engaging. It has a prayer in the beginning of every chapter.

Large type, pleasant layout throughout. Notes in the back with references. Well worth the $.
