I REALLY LOVED GOTH GIRL VIRGIN QUEEN. I LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS IN THE STORY AND I LOVED THE PARANORMAL ASPECT THE MOST. JACKIE LIED TO THE CHURCH WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER AND EVER SINCE SHE FEELS GUILTY AND TRIES TO DENY HER GIFT. JACKIE LEARNS SHE NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO USE HER GIFT TO HELP PEOPLE AND HER FRIENDS. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WITH JACKIE. I LOVE JOANNE KELTNER'S WRITING AND WOULD LOVE TO READ MORE OF HER BOOKS.
This story mixes the believable with the unbelievable. It’s the perfect time of year to read this story with Halloween just around the corner. The only thing missing for me is the eerie music. What impressed me was even though Jackie is a very unique young lady she won’t let that stop her from going out and trying to live some kind of normal life. One thing the author had me wishing was that I knew Russian. Her grandmother speaks it and I would love to hear it spoken as I re-read this tale. It also had me wishing to sample some Russian delicacies as I’m reading – just to give you a heads-up in case that’s what you’d like to do.
It’s a story that makes you feel sorry for our main character because no one seems to understand how special she really is. And we all know how people treat those things that they don’t understand. Her talent can also be considered scary and this is all people see. She’s had no one to nurture her so you can see that she internalizes a lot of what she feels. And that makes it hard for her to deal with other people. As you follow the story, one of her friends asks the perfect question and you may realize the same thing when you read the scene. And speaking of scenes – they seemed to flow very well from one to the next. I never seemed to get lost or confused. The ending did leave me a little perplexed because I couldn’t tell if we were going to see these characters again. It seemed a little unfinished.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jackie is sadly like a lot of kids in high school, teased for being different.
Even though her issues are different I can see a lot of teens being able to relate to Jackie and understand why she hides herself from everyone.
Jackie Turov is special. But sadly due to an incident when she was younger, has made her hide her "gifts" and shield herself from everyone around her. Even one of her so called "friends" betrays her and that's when Jackie's life begins to get really interesting.
This is a great Paranormal story! It was easy to read and I really liked the main character, Jackie. This is a YA book but, as an adult, I had no problem liking it too.
I'm hoping there is more to Jackie's story in a book two...hint hint:)
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a new YA Paranormal.
I give Goth Girl, Virgin Queen
She does have a “gift” but she’s not sure how to use it, or what it even is, for that matter; she just goes about her life as best she can by doing what she can to keep it at bay. I was drawn into this story from the very beginning, but it really sped up when Jackie is faced with the necessity to use her gift she was given by God, or the demons, she really doesn’t know.
Goth Girl Virgin Queen is written extremely well; I felt a part of the story. The characters are perfectly developed, with their own quirky, one-of-a-kind personalities. The story is unique; a combination of religion, psychics and demons with so many twists, you’ll never guess what will happen next. In addition to being a great book, it is also appropriate for students in upper middle to high school. There’s someone for everyone to relate to, my favorite was the local Madame that came to Jackie’s rescue when she needed it.
I would have liked more information about David at the end. That part was a little rushed; unless it’s left for a second book. Overall, this is a strong 4.5 Boundless Star book; I loved it a lot....Beth
