I purchased this to add to a CD I was making to play in my car(s) when I travel. I wanted a CD to play that contains music from "my time" and this was a good addition. Good addition to this "road music".

History was rewritten in rock music with "We gotta get out of this place"; brilliantly sung by Eric Burdon and the Animals; so long ago one would think the song would have found a foxhole to hide in by now. But that is not the case with this powerful, emotive classic that became a theme song for our warriors over in Vietnam, and represented to this day - in VFW's across the land - a reminder of how tough and gruesome it was in that war theatre; again, long ago. For one thing, having worked with Eric on his autobiography "The House of the Rising Sun" - I can vouch for his strong intelligence, loyalty to our military veterans, and singing prowess - even when bullets are flying - which is what happened - according to combat troops - while this famous song was blasting away from loud speakers on fire bases throughout the war theatre.

You get down to the bedrock of existence with this song, whether you are singing aloud in a drunken stupor or singing in concert with an entire bar full of excited patrons, who just happen to be Eric Burdon fans. Age is immaterial. His baritone voice hits the hard emotive notes like a cannon blasting through a wall of fire and ice. Hot and cold, true to form - an ageless classic - belonging to one and all - from Russia to Eastern Europe - from Spain to Equador - this song belongs with the living, breathing, and sweating men and women - who enjoy a full-throttle, high octane, mature street hymn for the weary and restless.

You take a breath and cut loose with all your vocal chord might, and when you finish the final lyrics (shown below) - you are a better person. You have sung a battle hymn.

Finally--the REAL U.S. version of a great song (and not the one represented as being the U.S. version if you purchase it with the icon that shows it's from the "Best of the Animals" album).

I rate the stars on the originality of the recording. Many times it is not the original release of the record.
