About the Author
Alberto Paz and Valorie Hart own Planet Tango, a company dedicated to preserve, foster, and advance the traditional values of the Argentine Tango culture, with a school and tango salon located in New Orleans, LA. They produce the widely successful New Orleans TangoFest each year. Together, Paz and Hart conduct master Argentine Tango classes, as well as lectures and workshops in cities across America and the world. They also publish El Firulete, an online international Argentine Tango magazine in English, and they have been featured dancers on the Buenos Aires TV show, Tango around the World. With their Web site, www.Planet-Tango.com, Paz and Hart provide dancers the opportunity to network on an international level.
Paz is a native of Argentina and grew up in the city of Buenos Aires, while Hart was born in the United State and is ballet trained with experience in both off-Broadway and summer stock. The two met in 1995 during a tango conference and workshop at Stanford University. Since then, the pair has made Argentine tango dancing their business.
They have developed a methodology based on the fundamental structure of the dance combining traditional and modern concepts of improvisation originally developed in the 1930s, updated in the 1990s, and successfully utilized in workshops in cities across America and around the world since 1997.
They have become knowledgeable educators with a proven record of providing expert instruction while examining the romance, passion, and emotion that fuel the authentic Argentine tango.

The product is advertised as the book being the central teaching element and the DVD is a supplement. The book is excellent. It's so easy to read and covers so much material in a succinct manner. IMO this book is a great place to start or pick up at any point in your learning process. It should be a classic and maybe if it's discovered and promoted the way it deserves to be it will.
The content of book itself is the genuine article and does, in great detail, describe many of the must know concepts of the Argentine Tango. Dispersed within the book are also many other little gems of knowledge.
As for the explanations of the physical movements they are at times tedious and confusing for a potential neophite but they are accurate. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words but often it takes many more than a thousand words to describe a picture. In a series of pictures, it is not what is just pictures that is important but the transition in between picture to picture. These transitions are where the true knowledge and understanding lies and is often almost impossible to explain.
So my suggestion is to buy this book...it is a good one, on and about tango. But also seek yourself some good live instruction from a competent instructor. By the way, it is hard to find a good instructor just as it is for a good instructor to find a good student so choose wisely.
As for the included DVD it is also very good and does clarify much of the explanation in the book and then some. I enjoyed it and once again gleamed some really nice little gems.
As an instructor of the Argentine Tango myself I am always looking for ways to improve my own knowledge and teaching method as well as explaining it to my students. So, I do highly recommend this book for all looking to improve their knowledge of this beautiful and extraordinary dance.
Tango well. Of course, going out to a Milonga is better, but if you've never danced this kind of Tango, it covers all basic footwork and body positions. And the music really sets the mood with the sample practicas showing movement across the floor with close up shots of the footwork. Definitely purchase this set to familarize yourself with Argentine Tango before you go to a Milonga. The book is fantastic, I really enjoyed reading about the history of Argentine Tango, and being able to familiarize youself with the terminology of tango is necessary when learnimg.

For a novice, this book was slow reading as I had to understand a lot of concepts. The investment of my time was and is well worth the effort as the reward cannot be measured as the knowledge is and will provide me with many years of enjoyment.
