To make matters worse, the print quality on the book's pages look like it came from an ink jet printer!? The book didn't look like the nearly $40.00 price it commands. There should be better choices out there, for a Gouache handbook.
4 stars for content but 1 on the production for the new edition. It looks like cheap color copies on plain uncoated paper, like a Print on Demand book. So long story short look for the original printing you will be much happier and it most likely will be cheaper.
All that said, I do like a lot of the content about gouache in the book. The info about brands, and which brushes to use, are fantastic. Strengths and weaknesses about gouache are top notch as well as which tools to use (brushes and papers) It does have some techniques and demos which are a mixed bag. They are not the best, very dated and some don't have a lot of step by step pictures, but if you take the technique ideas and apply them and not really look at the images there is some useful info. Personally I have the original edition and it is worth it, so go get some Holbien gouache and paint!
