I found this under Historical Romance. I gave up reading at 43% into the story. There is absolutely NO ROMANCE. There is no couple. No Hh. It’s about a band of people who are do gooders. It’s not a mystery. Everything is presented. It is well edited, which would account for the one star. I truly believe that a book should read according to the genre it is found within. I cannot begin to figure out where this writing belongs. Maybe vigilante or crime?

The purpose of this prequel is to set up the story in the first book of the new series. It is a compelling plot line that adopted siblings, each with unique talents, help the poor and exploited find justice. But this prequel is not a romance. The rest of the books will be. Expect some pretty eccentric characters.

This is a quick interesting story that introduces the Wild Wynchesters, six orphans adopted by Baron Vanderbean, Bean to the siblings, who become problem solvers and champions of the underprivileged. Each of the siblings has a special skill that is put to use to solve these and other problems. In this prequel, the siblings have two challenges, exposing a horribly run school for girls and retrieving a special painting stolen from the family by a disreputable duke. When Bean becomes ill (I warn you, you will need a tissue), Chloe steps in as leader of the group. Will the Wynchesters succeed in rescuing the girls from the cruel Miss Spranklin’s school? Will they be able to convince either of the dukes to return the painting? I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the series.

Chloe and her siblings solve problems for the underprivileged and lower class, as these issues could have been their own if they hadn’t been adopted by Baron Wynchester. When they hear about abused orphans being taken advantage of, the siblings all sign up right away to fight for justice. But when their precious heirloom goes missing and their beloved father falls ill, will Chloe still find a way to help those in need?

This was such a fun introduction to these wild siblings! What an amazing family to be part of, with a complete sense of being a unit and each having their own special talents to help others, you can help but immediately fall in love with each sibling and their father. In this prequel, we get a sense of who each sibling is, the lengths they’re all willing to go to fight for the underdog, and we see how much family truly matters to them. This prequel is told from Chloe’s point of view, with no love interest yet, but there’s quite a bit of drama that happens within these pages, plus a major tear-jerking moment! Even though it’s just a prequel, I already feel like I’ve connected to these characters and I am so excited for the next book to come out, as it’s essentially a continuation of this prequel! I loved this book! I’m completely hooked on these wild siblings!

I have to say I was more than a little surprised by some of the reviews. This is a prequel to the upcoming series The Wild Wynchesters. The book is listed as such and also lists the number of pages. This is a short story to let us know how, what and why the Wynchesters are a family.
Six orphans are adopted by one Baron Vanderbean, Bean to them. They become his unique family. Each of them has a special skill that helps the family fight for the underdog and those that society tend not to see or care about.
The story is told by Chloe who was the first child Bean found. Her brothers and sisters are Jacob, Tommy, Graham, Elizabeth and Marjorie. Mrs. Pine runs the orphanage that Chloe come from.
She has just found out that a Miss Spranklins has not only lied to her but is running a school for children that is hiding its true use. She is taking orphans to use as servants ! She works them from morning to night, feeds then very little and makes money for herself. The family has to help the children and shut her down. While making plans to do this a drunken, evil Duke who also has a gambling habit steals a painting that is very important to the family.
For a short story this one has lots of drama and intrigue and some grab the tissues scenes.
It is well written and makes you feel like you are there sharing what the family is going thru.
It does not have any romance but the hint of what might be to come. Am sure or hoping there will be a book for each member of the family. I hope you give it a try and see if they can help the kids and find their painting.
Chloe's story is the first one which am off to read right now, "The Dukes Heist" I can't wait.

A great start to a new series

Good enough for a bump on ratings to all. 4.5 out of 5 stars on my scale.

I'm a fan of Ridley's work and this prequel to the upcoming The Duke Heist is no exception. The Wynchesters are a lively bunch of siblings who went from orphans to family. It reminded me of a more loving case that Parker had with her mentor in Leverage.

While tragedy strikes a few times, Chloe still works to move mountains to help those who can't help themselves. Despite the setbacks, the siblings work together and find solutions. Because Baron Vanderbean helped them, they do the same. Love it.

Honestly, the mystery to solve the problem was fun. I really want to learn about Tommy and how she came to be such a chameleon. The siblings are all talented in their own ways.

I only took off half a star because I didn't quite believe the romance in this story. The next in the series will explain so much more, I'm sure. But for this, I felt Chloe deserved much better.

A lovely start to a new series. The whole family of Wynchesters' were endearing, and all with exceptional if sometimes legally questionable skills, helped perfectly. I thought it very sad that we should loose 'Bean' the adoptive father so early on.
I look forward to the next book when the new Duke of Faircliffe will hopefully get his comeuppance, although if the history we glimpsed of his father in this story was an indicator, he had a terrible life to put up with, but having said that, he should not have made off with something which didn't belong to him, and even more terrible he shouldn't have given said item to his intended!
Let the gun begin!!
I would thoroughly recommend this book.

An introduction book rather than a full on story... but still a page turner

This book is more of a short story weaved into an introduction to the Wynchester family to wet your appetite for the new series that’s on the way.
There is a little action, some heart ache and some heart flutters but mainly there’s lots of finding out who everyone is and what they can do.
They’re a justice fighting group of orphan siblings ready to right some wrongs in the works.
It has set up what looks to be a good series and I’m excited to get stuck in to it.

I am awarding this no stars as I did not enjoy this book at all, I had to force myself to continue it and then at the end I wondered why I bothered. The story made no sense, the characters did not draw me in nor did I warn to them. I feel reading this book is time wasted. It appears I can only submit my review if I award 1 star but given a choice I would not have awarded that.
