Popup camper bunkend/slideout reflective covers

I bought 4 of these blankets. One was cut in half and each half sewed to a whole blanket to make it longer. Im using them as solar blankets to reflect heat off the bunkends and slide out on my popup camper. These photos were taking as I was installing them on my camper. I sewed 4" loop "velcro" to the blanket and glued the hook "velcro" to the inside edge of the camper roof. I will add more pics once I get the camper completed lifted and bungee straps added. These are great quality blankets, light weight but seem very durable and were easy to work with. They shipped fast and arrived just as expected.

The material is great but the first day I made a shelter in the wind the grommets ripped right out. The grommets are too few and very poorly made. I fixed it by using gorilla tape and stronger grommets and I added a few more and it seems much better. But this tarp should have better reinforced grommets as it is designed to be used hung up and i the wind. And it not cheap so I would expect a better quality grommet and to not have to replace them myself. For the price this is significant failure. Other wise I like the thick tarp material and the reflective surface.

If you are a cold-when-not-in-motion type person like myself, this fancy tarp/blanket is awesome over other blankets while sleeping. It's 50 degrees in my cabin so I cannot (yet) attest to how effective it is alone or in cold temperatures. It is rather noisy but again, its a tarp. I bought 2 and keep one in my car for emergencies. Oh! Also great for keeping cats off the bed; they don't like the noise :)

Update: I draped 2 of these and a blue tarp over my tent while camping and there was a significant temperature difference between inside the tent and outside. The tent I packed didn't have a rain cover in the bag, so of course it started raining, hailing, and snowing. In May lol. These are awesome. Highly recommend!

At first glance, it doesn't look like much. It's a thin tarp with foil on one side. Last night was a cold (California) night. Bundled under a sheet, a comforter and a blanket, and wearing PJs, it can be said that I am a cold-weather-weenie. For a lark I thought I'd discard the blankets and, shivering, roll up like a delicious human-burrito inside this blanket from space. Instead of dying from exposure, like I expected, I remained very comfortable. Warm? Not quite, but warm enough to fall asleep. Unfortunately, this makes for terrible bed dressing because it crinkles like fresh lettuce, waking me up. I toss and roll in bed, and my toe nails are pointy and neglected, and yet the blanket is no worse for wear, which is amazing because it has been said that I am violent in my sleep.

So, there you go. Warm, and durable enough to survive a night with me. Meet my new girlfriend.

used to supplement summer sleeping bag in the Grand Tetons

I recently returned from a back-country backpacking trip in the Grand Tetons. Due to the steep climib to over 10,000 feet with a pack, I needed to keep weight to a minimum. I took my very light weight summer sleeping bag but knew it would not be enough at altitude to keep me warm. This product did the trick. What works best is to first lay out the blanket with about 35% on the floor of your tent and the remainder folder on top. Then slip your ground pad and sleeping bag inside and fold it over and tuck it underneath at the feet and the side(that's why you need to leave more on the top). Essentially, make yourself a burrito. This kept me very comfortably warm with very miinimal weight. The blanket is much studier than the disposal true emergency blankets that are the size of a pack of cigarettes, and thus has a bit more bulk and weight. But the weight is very slight and it does fold up to a small size if you take a bit of time (about the size of a medium length paperback book). Definitely a very useful item when backpacking across a wide range of temperatures and weight must be kept to a minimum.

Tough but not mylar

I bought 3 of these for two purposes: emergency warmth if needed and also for a heat reflective ground cover for use under my tent. I know the flimsy thin mylar film you can get for cheap wouldn't hold up to either of these uses. This "blanket" does help you retain heat in a pinch but just like mylar, it doesn't breathe. One side is a rip-resistant tarp-like material and has aluminum bonded to it that shows on the other side. Not aluminum foil. The edges are sewn and finished with grommets on each corner. These are made well enough where they should last several years with reasonable care. I wouldn't mind seeing something of this quality made with a mylar backing instead of aluminum though since mylar reflects heat about 10% more.

Get One For Your Emergency Kit.

If you roam the outdoors or travel during winter, you really should have one or two in your emergency pack. I ordered enough to put at least one in every one of my vehicles. Living in the Pacific Northwest, it does get cold during the winter and if you're driving thru the mountain pass, you will see snow. If you have a breakdown, having an emergency blanket to keep you warm is one point in favor of your survival.

In addition to this blanket, I also toss in an inexpensive fleece blanket and a small spool of 550 (parachute) cord. The fleece blanket eases the clamminess of the All Weather Blanket and adds a lot of warmth for little weight. With the 550 cord, you can easily create a shelter.

You might be thinking at this moment, "holy cow! This guy is paranoid and overkill." But I promise you that the one time you get stranded at Snoqualmie Pass because of a landslide, you will think me a genius. This $20 worth of prevention will suddenly be priceless.

Another friend of mine used one to repair a shattered picture window during winter. An earthquake shattered his picture window. He didn't have any boards handy but grabbed a roll of duct tape and taped this blanket over the window. It blocked out the cold winds and gave a sense of reassurance by sealing that hole temporarily. The point here is that there are multiple uses limited by your imagination but when you need one, you will need it badly.
