Rich in biblical exposition and in theological depth, By Grace Alone is a series of great messages by one of today's greatest preachers on some of the greatest Scripture texts- all on one of the greatest themes of the Bible: amazing grace! This book will excite your mind, stir your affection, convict your soul, win your heart, and move you into action. It will evangelize, disciple and mature all kinds of readers. Dr. Ferguson has given us another feast, and there is food here for all-saved and unsaved, ministers and laypeople, young and old.--Dr. Joel R. Beeke President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary Grand Rapids, Michigan
Most of us have books lying on a table or a bookshelf somewhere, waiting for us to get around to reading them. Please don't let this book be in that category. Sinclair Ferguson is one of the clearest, brightest lights in evangelical Christianity today. This book will point you to the freedom and exuberance of living in the grace of God through Jesus Christ. Read this book for your own encouragement, and pass it along to a new disciple or an (as yet) unbelieving neighbor.--Russell D. Moore: Dean, School of Theology Vice president for academic administration The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville, Kentucky.
Sinclair Ferguson's biblically insightful and pastorally profound meditations on the manifold grace of God are strung like pearls on the stanzas of the African hymn 'O How the Grace of God Amazes Me.' Christ is at the very center, as He must be: in Him, our enslaved hearts find freedom, our guilty hearts find forgiveness, our troubled hearts find a Defender in the darkness, and our embattled hearts find strength to resist the enemy's enticements. Thirsty hearts, come to Jesus and drink deeply from His fountain of amazing, life-giving, joy-imparting, hope-sustaining grace.--Dennis E. Johnson Professor of Practical Theology, Westminster Seminary California Escondido, California

Ferguson chronicles how the grace of God transforms the people of God. His approach is rooted in Reformed theology which is Christ-centered and cross saturated throughout. He lingers on key doctrinal areas which magnify the grace of God.
By Grace Alone reminds us of sola gratia, one of the five sola's that was revived by the Protestant Reformers. It reminds us of depths of the Gospel and the freedom and forgiveness that Christ promises for anyone who repents of sin and believes.
This book's seven chapters are reflections on divine grace from different angles, each built around a stanza from a rich but little-known hymn, "O How the Grace of God Amazes Me," which was written in the mid-twentieth century by a pastor in the African nation of Burundi, Emmanuel T. Sibomana. Through this poem, Dr. Ferguson expounds in great detail the glories and wonders of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice that he made on the cross for mankind.
Though it looks like a short book at first (123 pages), I soon found out that this book has to be taken at a slow and thorough pace. Each chapter seemingly unlocks a often overlooked detail of God's grace, and these concepts are explained through a close examinations of different bible stories. From the well-known story of the prodigal son to the trials of Job, Ferguson is methodical in how he relates each story to different aspects of God's grace. Ultimately, Dr. Ferguson's point to the book is to direct our attention back to the cross and the grace that it displayed; he calls us to a shift our characteristically mediocre response to God's grace to one filled with awe and praise.
By Grace Alone certainly showed me how stale my concept of God's grace had become. Too often I had accustomed to the grace of God, even expecting grace to cover me when I sinned; this hardened my heart and kept me from being truly amazed at the gospel. I would recommend this book for Christians who fear they may have lost the texture or gravity of the gospel, those who have seemingly lost the wonder of the cross in their hearts. This book will humble you and help you understand our loving God on a more intimate level.
